My 1966 Valiant Effort

-
Thanks John! Yeah, definitely! lol
Haven't seen you on here a whole lot lately, but then again, I haven't been on much with school and stuff. I still need to order the springs, lol. Car drives and handles 10x better though. Can't wait to get the rear done. However, i need to stop spending money on spare parts, lol
Gotta get em before they're gone I guess :protest:

Yeah school is priority one. Don't lose focus on that.

What are you doing to the rear? 8 3/4? I have a few extra C body housings and an open 741 case assembled with highway gears. Can't remember the ratio. I would let them go for cheap if you haven't gotten one yet.

Edit: just read your first post again. I guess that you are setup on the rear. I am running a 12" rim on my dart with just mini tubs. Never had an issue.

Yeah, I've chatted with Pettybludart about it a little bit since he has an early A and I think he said the same thing. How wide are your tires?

Yes I run 12 inch rims also.I first had 29x15x12 Hoosiers and had minimal rubbing. After frying those slicks over a 2 yr period with a couple 100 burnouts,I steeped down to a 11.5 slick. You have to take into consideration with the buldge factor. With the minitub your limited to 14 inches per side.Keep up the great work...looking good!
A pic with 29x15x11.5..

I did have to trim the fender lip a little, but they are 325/50/15 I have about 1/2" clearance on each side. I cut down my housing to fit the wheel and tire combo. I plan to go lower in the rear, but need to need to go to a shorter coilover spring combo on this car too. Depending on how low you want to go you may need to go to aftermarket tubs because of the radius of the factory tubs.

That Dart looks pretty nasty John. Did you make your own kit? If so, how much would you charge to make a set of 32" ladder bars? I'd like to have the Valiant at least as low as pettybludart's Dart. I may even get some PST 2"drop spindles in the future. I guess I'll see when the time comes.lol

Well I pieced together a Alson Pro Street 4 link kit and built my own cross member. This ladder bar price would be really hard to beat. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CEE-2006/

Yeah, I've been staring at that one pretty hard lately, either that one or the ladderlink one for $279.

I did get TIG certed at work last Wednesday, I might consider making my own if I could get the DOM at a reasonable price. I'll have to price a set of rod/heim ends and see if it's cost effective. lol I can build it all at work.

Heck, the owner of the shop I work for told me I could use the facility to do the front end work; however, my bud told me I could do it at his place.....a lot of people at work we don't trust. Guys have had their weld hoods and tools blatantly stolen off of their boxes......we have a night shift, if that says anything at all.

Got a set of Hooker Super Comp headers this week from Mr. Shine. Look like the 5208 ceramic coated ones.

I know, I still need pics of the engine stuff. lol Been a little busy.

Thanks Geof!
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked about it.

Eventually it's gonna get a full cage as well. Been trying to decide on a color when the body work get's done.

Thinking jet black with the black vinyl top and a satin black hood. Wish I could get a cowl hood for it, I could prob put one on the factory hood...however might go with a Hemi scoop. Or possibly gun metal gray with the black vinyl top and satin hood. Hmmm

I would sure be interested in that scoop if you aren't going to use it PM me.

Thanks,
Mike

az426hemi, will do whenever the time comes.

Just thinking about this.....I'm now not sure those headers will fit with the shock tower hoops in there for the c/o conversion! Hmmmm. Guess I'll find out when the time comes.

Will prob have to run the m/c lines differently as well, grrrr!

Started doing some head work for the 318: Gasket match, workin the pushrod pinch, and some intake bowl work right now. Will work/shape the guides a little bit hopefully tomorrow. Exhaust ports will be opened just a little bit and smoothed.
Intake gasket is Fel-Pro 1243 318 2bbl with the 1.05"x2.08" port opening. This gasket surprisingly matches near perfectly to the Performer 318/360 intake as well. The heads are a diff story though.
I'm hoping that this will def help the power a little.

Gasket match is done on this head as well as about as much that can come out of the pushrod pinch area.

Okay, some progress on the 318 build, which is taking forever, lol. Heads are done after over 2mo, lol.
New stock valves...1.75/1.50, milled to 60cc chambers, bronze guides, springs.

Finally, some pics of the block. Chased/cleaned all threads and gave it a good scrubbin at the car wash.

Just upload it to YouTube and paste a link.

Love this thread! Great work.

I'm sure I missed it somewhere-what kinda cam did you wind up with?

Looks really good to me man-I personally think you did a pretty good job with the home porting, and the rest of the car looks pretty damn nice too. I bet that 318 motivates your little Val around with some authority.

Yeah, I ended up calling Comp and giving them the spring pressure and stem height as the heads were already set up.
They recommended the XE268.

I had the heads set up for a Lunati but the Comp was about $65 cheaper and close in numbers. The Lunati had more duration and less lift.

The car moves about 10x quicker than that worn out 273, lol.
I need to play with the timing and play with jetting but right now, it starts right up and pulls pretty friggin good.
