I've had this car since 1986. I bought it for $40, and cost me $65 to get it home. It had no motor, box, interior, lights, bumpers, etc.
I finished it in 1990, and drove it till 1997, put 75,000 miles on it, had a slant 6 and 4sp, but the body repairs ( done with oxy/acetylene torch ) had be come brittle, so I pulled it apart, started on it, and haven't got back to it, till now.
I have ordered a 318/390 stroker kit from Hughes Engines.....will be a few weeks till it gets here.

My first car, the SV1 Valiant.jpg

Yep, one of those things "was" a cheatin', gamblin' wife.....have since got rid of her....and having a good paying job now, is helping a lot.

My stroker kit showed up today from the US of A......Hughes engines...318/390 kit. The pistons are very nicely finished.....they are "Icon".....forged...never heard of them before.....are they a new mob?
Turns out the balancer is made here.....LOL.

Ive heard they are pretty good. Always good to have your local machinist take a look at them.

What does the crankshaftdamper mean by "use with supercharger or you will break this part?"

They mean, use this part especially if you are running a supercharger.
If you use the OEM type ( cast iron ), they come apart.....can't handle the quick accelleration of the crank.....supercharged or turbo for that matter.

I got my cylinder heads the other day.....Edelbrock Performer RPM's....they look nice too.
I will be porting and polishing them before fittment......and got a box of ARP head bolts too.
I thought the spark plug holes at the combustion chamber could've been finished better though.......but i'll fix that.

geesh, you'd think for the price, they would cleaned the holes up, can't wait to see this one come together, it should be wicked.

I have now got my rocker gear for the heads.....but no hardware to bolt them on with.....yet.....still a ways to go.....have to wait a bit now as I'm having a new house built.....I am over going around with the wife picking out tiles, carpet, lights, doors..etc.
It will be awhile updating this thread as my stuff is packed away.

I now have a carby ( Holley 800cfm D/P spreadbore) and an Edelbrock Torker II 340 intake.
I may have to make a f/glass bonnet to go with it....and an integral bonnet scoop.

Been a while since I updated this thread......sooooo.....I have changed what I am doing with this car.....it is now going to be a Nostalgia Drag car with a 226 slant 6, 4sp, 4.11 gears, 3 x 45mm Delorto's, headers, Erson cam, big valves, etc.
I bought another 62 for the 318/390 to go in.
I made spool type engine mounts for the slant.

I have cleaned up a modified Bellhousing....it's a 3sp one converted to a 4sp one.
I glassbead blasted it, then went over it with a 4" grinder and smoothed off the rough casting and rounded off the sharp edges.

I widened some old wheels for the rear of the car.....small stud pattern.....made them from 4.5 x 14 to 7 x 14.
I had to specially sharpen a drill bit, 5/8", to drill out the spot welds in the skinny rim.
I also had to use a Rotary Hammer drill, ya need some grunt to turn that drill bit.
I had to cut out the centres from the donor rims.

I then beadblasted the pieces and set them up on the car to see where I could centre it to suit.
As it turned out, I had to reverse the out rim to get it centred.....which meant welding up the valve stem hole, and drilling a new one.
Then checked them for centre/square with a dial indicator, and welded them in place.

The wheels are now painted in bright white 2Pack paint and fitted with tyres.
235/60R14 for the rear, and 175/75R14 for the front.
With Nostalgia rules here, must use street tyres, NO slicks....go into a different class for that.
The rears fit under the guards without having to tub them out.
When I got the rears balanced, the twits put the weights in the wrong place, so I'll have to get them rebalanced with the weights in the middle of the rim.

I found some airfilter kits to fit my Delorto DHLA 45's.
They are stainless steel, and have a K&N style filter.....different to the picture on the box.....that was how they used to be.
The airfilters are 3" tall.
I bought the carbys brand new back in 1992, and never got round to fitting them....thats going to change.
I'm thinking about making some small velocity stacks to fit inside the airfilters......wait n see.

I have aquired a proper 10" clutch kit and billet steel flywheel, capable of handling 450hp, so I won't be breaking that in a hurry behind a N/A slant 6.
The clutch plate is a 5 puck Ceramic type, and the flywheel is made to suit a slant 6, a Hemi 6, or a small block LA V8.
I am also using ARP flywheel bolts for it, and grade 8 CAT bolts for the clutch pressure plate.

Remember it's for an aussie BW Single Rail g'box, we didn't get the A833 4sp here, the Fed Govt had "Local Content" laws at the time.

I now have shockies for it, and I got some boot kits to protect the shafts, as well.
I hope they work good........:burnout:
