I had to get made a Harmonic Balancer ( they make them only when ordered)....and it's ANDRA approved, made of steel and alloy, fully incremented around it too.

I made some tooling for removing and installing the UCA bushes.
After I removed the bushes, I though, maybe I could make new bushings for them.....????

So I did, from special Nylon stock......I made tooling to get the old rubber out too.

In the 2nd and 3rd pics, the old one is on the left.

I found out that the 'Nylon' isn't actually Nylon, it's Acetal Delrin.
Finally had some good sunny weather, so I got to painting the various bits n pieces I had already beadblasted.
Just gotta wait for the paint to harden before wrapping them up ready for installation later.

I made up a bucket of fluid for Zinc plating bits n pieces for the car today.
I wasn't having any luck with my power supply though....I would set the voltage and amperage, and the damn machine would change it.......ended up being stuck with 0.3 VDC and 1.3 amps.....I worked out it needed 1.26 amps for the surface area being plated.....just wished I could get 14V with it.
Anyway, these pics are before plating, and during plating.
The parts were beadblasted, then wire buffed, degreased, and rinced off with deminerised water, and blow dried prior to puting in the tank.

I also fitted a new wall cabinet in my Assembly Room to get stuff off the benches in there.
I need to fit some door knobs on them so I don't need the keys in the locks to open them.

I got round to plating the special bolts for the front brake calipers, and built the brake calipers.
The calipers are from an Aussie 1966 VC Valiant V8 Regal sedan.
I bought an alloy diff cover that helps strengthen the diff housing.

I haven't been doing much on it lately.....been raining heaps....and I've had to do some work on my daily driver as well.

This arvo I made new front spring hanger mounts as the old ones were worn and a little bent/twisted.
The old ones were 4mm thick, and now the new ones are 5mm thick, and I will be using a 1/2" bolt instead of a 7/16" bolt.
I will be making the bushes from Acetal Delrin as well.
Just got to beadblast and paint them now.

I removed the 'K' frame and blasted n plated the bolts n washers for that, as well as plated the new bolts for the forward hanger brackets.
I also blasted and plated the rear shackle upper brackets.
Removed the fuel tank, and it had nearly 20 litres (5.5 US Gal) of the old red Super fuel (leaded) in it.....from 1996......gunna use that in the mower.

Nice read. Delorrto's destroy, Weber's tuned correctly. My hot rod Datsun,was going 7000+ with a Dellorto 45..
 
Clutch fork is done, as are the front spring hanger brackets.

I spent 2 days removing old paint, welding spatter and sharp edges from the K frame, and then painted it in 2 pack gloss black. I also did the rear brake drums too, removing the rough feel from the casting.

I've started to make an electronic dizzy using the guts from a Bosch unit, the gear from a slant, and a chunk of alloy for the body.
The original slant dizzy body had a diameter of 65mm, and the donor Bosch unit has a diameter of 88.80mm.
I'm going this way because I will be running some big spark from an IC&E Ignition system.
The donor dizzy is from a 1980 Ford XD Falcon with an alloy head, crossflow 250 ci, 6 cylinder.
The NOS bushes I bought near on 20 years ago.....lucky I still had them, because you can't buy them anymore.
The slant gear fits the Bosch shaft too.....in Oz, the slants from about 1964 had Bosch dizzys.
I haven't finished it yet.....gotta work out how to hold the clips on, and where to drill the holes for the Stator to mount to.

I did some more on the dizzy today....mainly working out that everything is going to line up in such a way that it clears things, and points the right way.
Then checking orientation of everything for the inside, and the oiling hole for the bushed as well.

The dizzy is now assembled and finished.....just waiting on new genuine Bosch parts, namely, Cap, rotor & module.
I will be mounting the module up on the inner guard on a heat sink, as there is no room for it down near the dizzy.
In one pic, is the old dizzy that it will replace.

I also finished rebuilding the steering coupling too.
I disassembled the original coupling, beadblasted the reuseable bits, zinc plated them, and fitted the new parts as required.....ready for installation later on.

The plating kit, I got from Caswell....and it wasn't cheap....all up, it cost me around $1,300 to set it up, but I see it as worth it since I can determine how much zinc I want to put on the articles, and not rely on a business to do it.....besides, there isn't anybody within several hundred miles to do it anyway.
I'm still learning with it, but I have the basics fairly down pat.
Check out some vids on youtube....should be plenty on the subject.
 
that's the best thing about this site...you learn a little here and a little there, everybody has something to teach others, even if it's only by showing what they are doing!
