My 65 Valiant Vert Resto

I also filled in the side marker light. Personal preference.

A little more progress on the left fender today. I may have a couple more small spots but this one is pretty much done. The right side gonna some more love.

Alright, I couldn’t help myself. Had to stick the fender on just to look at.

wasn't that a bumper bracket hole?
Well that’s what I get for assuming. The front of the car was mostly disassembled before I got it. I thought a side marker light went in there. Looking at some pics on internet now, guess I’ll have to put that hole back. Thanks for saying something.

However I am considering deleting the front bumper. I’ll see once I get the other fender and valance back on. Then I’ll decide.

In the 90s, I worked at a Plymouth dealer in Windsor Locks CT, parts dept. The owner of the property, and prior dealer principal, had a very similar car with a 198. He wanted more power, so a 225 from a 66 Valiant was sourced and built with many goodies from the DC book. Also had Cragers SS rims and Goodyear's GT4s installed. Real nice car but kinda of a ***** to drive with manual steering. Any way, it was stolen one night and later found in Springfield Ma. Not much wrong with it. The owner was tramatized and didn't want the car back. It was resold by the insurance company. I saw it on the road a couple a times, then saw it stored, then lost track of it. Too bad, it was in nice shape in it's hey day.

The point of my story is that I saw yours and was hoping it was that car from long ago.
Nice job on yours nonetheless and I hope your daughter enjoys it for years to come.

You have created an opportunity for yourself!

Yes, I’ve seen that car before and I like that valance. I’m tempted to do that. I was already planning a grill like that one too. Once I get the metal work done on the right fender and hood and get those on it’ll be time to decide.

Left fender done so I started on the right one. Definitely worse. Doing this first part in two pieces.

Got the ugly part done. Few more spots on this fender still to go.

Went to friend’s house with a shrinker stretcher and English wheel. Helped me make this patch piece. Definitely gonna need some filler but it’ll be good. I’m leaving this “side marker” hole until I decide bumper or no bumper.

Nice Work! I'm doing the same with my 63 Valiant, I'd rather fix my original panels than buy used. But sometimes you have to buy used or new. Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see more.

A little more on the right fender. Filled in the antenna hole too. Only one major spot left on this fender. Then it’s on to the hood.

Finally got the right fender sheet metal done! Hung it on the car. Man it’s motivating to see things coming together. Hood is next.

Started on the hood. I knew when I saw expanding foam behind the hood latch it wasn’t going to be good. Pretty sure I can handle this though. Just bought a shrinker and stretcher.

Got the outside of the hood all done. Bought myself an English wheel. Helps a lot. Got a few pieces to do on the inside now. Should be easier than the outside.
