My search for a shorty D100 is over

-
So today was a good day, despite nearly breaking my wrist, twice, electrocuting myself, and destroying one of my favorite 1/2” electric drills all in the span of about 10 minutes, (yes there’s pics). If you’ve ever drilled a 3/4” hole in steel with a brand new drill bit, and a powerful drill you know where I’m going with this. “Just drill the lower control arm mount brackets” they said, “it’s easy” they said. Nope. My good buddy Chris, @Turbo440Dart and I decided to tackle lowering my D100 today because we both had nothing better to do than lay on cold concrete and let some blood run out of our knuckles, and become what we now consider ourselves, professional D100 lower’ers. We know exactly what not to do. So if you need your truck lowered just ask and we’ll help you find someone who’s never done it. I digress.
We started about 10am and had the whole front apart by about 10:20 and thought we were cruisin right along. By 1:00 our hands were bleeding and after fighting us at every step along the way the front was done and back together. Dropped it off the jack stands and both of us stood back and agreed, the fight was worth it. After a quick lunch it was on to the rear. Just a normal axle flip with new perches and thankfully this truck is so nice that everything came apart super easy and went back together in the same way and the rear only took us an hour and a half or so. I decided that we weren’t going to set pinion angle and weld the perches today and that bit us in the *** because once we had everything back together and wanted to see our handiwork we rolled the truck out of my shop and I touch the gas and let the clutch out and the pumpkin rotated up and smacked the bed floor and locked up the u joint. ****. Luckily lifting with the floor jack on the nose of the diff rotated it back to non U joint killing territory and back in the shop it went after we took some pics. Remember when I said it was a good day? It was and I meant it because in my opinion the only thing cooler than a short wide Dodge is a lowered short wide Dodge and we succeeded. It’s 3” lower front and back and has just enough of the hood rat look I was after. The truck is far from perfect but today we made it perfect’er. Thanks for the help Chris. the truck is looking killer though

It took me a bit to find the correct ones so I wanted to post the number for others as well as myself. Oh and FYI I need 8 total and ended up with 8, 2 packs. Rock auto wasn’t specific. So I have 8 extras.
If you ever need parts from Vans/Tony's parts, they are good friends and just down the road.

Not much to share with regards to the truck but I was very busy during the holidays. I had 2 weeks off work and got a lot done around my house. The truck did get its first bath yesterday since I’ve owned it and I had the guy who detailed my boat come and look at it. He seems to think the original paint will buff out nicely. I’m going to let him go to town on it with his magic sauce.

While waiting for my interior guy to finish the seat, (apparently he’s not in a hurry), I’ve been doing more cosmetic “things” to the truck. I really need to start fixing sheet metal in the floor pans but I’m procrastinating on that. Back to “things”, the black wheels and black out treatment on all the chrome of this truck really just turned me off on white paint so I decided I needed a fancy offset color. So here we go, I realize I may loose a few of you but that’s ok. The interior is going to be very blue so that’s going to carry through the whole truck. First was the wheels. I didn’t want to buy new wheels and I actually really like the look of cop wheels and caps, so all the black got stripped and prepped, then shot blue. The next “thing” was kind of spur of the moment. I went to Don Hamptons (of Hampton Blowers fame) birthday party recently and found myself taking pictures of the paint work on 60s-70s altereds and front engine dragsters and realized how much I love hand painted stuff of that era. The gold leaf, silver leaf, pinstriping, panels, layers, etc are just awesome. So a decision to leaf the raised letters on the tailgate was made. I contacted a guy well know in the so cal boat world and took him my tailgate. I originally wanted gold leaf but gave him the freedom to do what he wanted and he decided on silver. I’m so glad he did, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. If you need custom, hand painted stuff done contact Lefty’s pinstriping. He’s incredible, and very fair.
I’ll drop a link below. Here’s the pics from the last few weeks. Enjoy.

Can we get some pics in the daylight showing the wheels/caps and all the trim shiny? Like a 3/4front shot? Looking great

And you know, my first truck was a ramcharger. My next 2 were short beds back when I was about 1/2 of my current age. (I'm 57) And I was teased, made fun of back then for those short beds. Mostly by an older brother. And the closest thing I've had since we're a few Dakota's with the same length bed as the full size short beds were in the,70s and 80s, every fill size I've had since has been a long bed. Every single one of them a Dodge.
I don't see many short bed trucks from back then around any more. The short beds of today are ridiculously so, unusably so.

Yea I have the handle that came with the drill but just didn’t have it on there. I can’t believe the molded handle broke when the bit locked up. I seriously thought my wrist was broken.
A little late to the game here, but...

My 90 year old father has an old metal-cased B&D drill with a handle coming out the top that must be older than dirt now, but when I was 16, while drilling holes in the frame of my grandfather's '73 Gran Torino (I was installing a homemade trailer hitch), since I was under the car, pushing up (and pushing hard, with both hands), when the damn bit "grabbed", I was hanging on so hard that the torque spun me around on my back! Hurt my wrists something fierce, but my dad thought it was pretty funny. Oddly enough I didn't think so at the time.

Damn drill still works just fine, despite being dropped, run over, beat on, (etc), and I'll probably inherit it someday.

sounds just like the one I got from my grandpa. only 600 rpm free speed, 5/8 chuck, and yeah itll rip your arms right out of their socket

Sounds about right. Thing runs so slow it seems like you could count the revolutions manually, and enough torque to turn over a Pro-Stock Hemi!

Exaggerations? Of course, but you get the drift.

Is the plan to keep the rear roll pan? I think a chrome Ramcharger rear bumper would look nice
