My search for a shorty D100 is over

Had an incredible day at the mooneyes Christmas party hangin out with great car people and got to make passes at the world famous Pomona drag strip. Best run of the day is on the slip. I’m 9875 right lane. I walked it out of the hole gingerly all the way through first, you know because 8-1/4 diff life. Then poured the coals to it after the 1-2 shift and activated the nitrous. I’m surprised the truck did this well, after all I did drive it 40 miles to the track, made two passes and drove it home. All of the spider gears in tact believe it or not. My girl took lots of photos and videos so as soon as I can get those I put em up View attachment 1716491157View attachment 1716491154View attachment 1716491153View attachment 1716491152
Great job walking her out and not spinning, second gear with nos and ran a good time of 8.20, yep, if you feel the need to hit her hard with good rear tires that bite its time to move forward to a bigger rearend, but sounds like you know your truck very well, good job and a good reaction time in my book.
Congratulations on a great event and trip there and back.

You have your truck setting nice, I bet it squat and transfers nicely. Love the wheel choice and color, great job my friend

What are your plans for a rear axle? I think I'd go straight to a Dana. I think you'll splatter an 8 3/4 all over the track.

Was your ET on “the bottle?”

8.22 @ 88 only spraying 3rd gear. In the 1/8 with 3.55s and 28” tires I’m not in third very long. And I’m not hammering it off the line. I was trying very hard not to destroy an 8-1/4 diff. I did no burn out all day and just walked it off the line.

I’m a cheap ***, I won’t build a Dana unless I’m restoring a 69 hemi roadrunner with a 4 gear. And that’s not happening. I can make an 8-3/4 live im sure, I’ve gone as fast as low 10s with one off a trans brake at 3400lbs. This truck won’t ever (don’t quote me on that) be that fast. If I need more than an 8-3/4 it’ll get a 9” ford. Hell it might get a 9” just because I can build one cheaper than an 8-3/4. I also have a 9” housing and some aerospace components disks sitting unused in my pile of parts, so there’s that.

The D60 i have is = Hsg flange to Hsg flange 61 3/4. 40" perches.

The 8 3/4 will be a bit as i cant get to it right now

Please don’t hurt yourself or delay recovery on account of searching for parts for me. I need you healthy and able to drive at bonneville!! The diff can wait!

Couple of my favorite shots sent to me by Mr Troy Goldie, thanks dude. The one of all of us leaning on the D in the staging lanes like the bed is full of beer is great.

I called uncle and didnt measure the 8.75. But I mean really, it has been like 4 days, I should be good to go

I'm running a 67 dodge d100 8 3/4 in my 85 dodge d150. housing is identical in width and perches. Just had to shorten the driveshaft.

I don't think an 8 3/4 will be "permanent" behind what you have with nitrous hits on top of that. It'll be interesting to see.

As long as he stays on street tires it'll hold if built right.. RE of mopar action fame always said the chrysler 12 bolt 9.25 was the poormans Dana 60.. anything pre 85 in the d100 and d150 and w100 and w150 is bolt in ready as well same width no driveshaft mods from 8.25/8.38 to 9.25. 85-93 Trucks changed from 5 on 4.5 to 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. The 8 1/4/8.38 can take some abuse, but they are only 27 spline until 96 and later. the 9.25 is 31 spline axles. I prefer the swap ability of the 8.75 though

I've always liked the 9.25, but people usually piss all over um and the aftermarket doesn't offer "much".

It’s a heavy pig of a rear end like a Dana. And you ain’t wrong about aftermarket support. I’m not brand loyal at all when it comes to transmissions or rear ends so cheap, strong, reliable, and lots of aftermarket support will be my “needs”

Then I think a Ford 9 is a good idea. It has the 8 3/4 beat a good bit by strength, regardless of what the chest thumpers say.
