Was replacing the roller lifters on my 1988 318. Found the pictured piece on my tray when I was cleaning pushrods, rockers, and rock shafts.

No idea what it is. Not even sure if it came out of the engine.

Any thoughts on it welcome.

Dana, thought that at first, but all the push rods are complete. Thought maybe I knocked a tip off when cleaning it.
Only thing Ive ever seen in any of the engine work Ive done is an oil jet from the deck on a Nissan V6, but this doesnt have an orifice.
I though it fell off one of the old lifters, but they all look good.

Looks like a pin for the cross bar on a paired lifter set. Looks like it is punched on the end to hold it. It could be from an earlier repair if all yours are present. Probably too long for that though.

It has that witness mark on it like something was rolling or pivoting on it

It looks like a rivet that didn't get mooshed

The pictured item is the inner moving metal valve part of a PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve.

The valve part is shown in pink in the following generic diagram:

Wow, ! I thought it came out of a non adjustable air bleed location on a Holley, Carter, or even a Thurmoquad...
