NASCAR has done it this time !

-
I can't remember the last time I watched a NASCAR race on TV. I just can't get interested in it anymore. I spent this past October thru January helping my buddy clean out his race engine shop that was total lossed by Helene. He is an exceptional engine builder who put many of the top names in the winners circle in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Getting to hear the stories that he and drivers like Dave Marcis, Harry Gant and several others told when they came by Ben's shop or called was absolutely priceless. All I will say is they got away with a lot more than they got caught at! LOL. They were all thankful for being able to race at the point in time that they did.

Oh yes ...always liked gant...too
It was the end of the backyard racers area
The same reason I can't watch indy anymore

I
I have been a fan of nascar for a long time.
Since 1960.
I've been to a few tracks, (Riverside,Atlanta,Talladega,Pocono).
Bought a bit of merchandise.

Now they have taken away the FREE TV.
You now have to be a subscriber to PRIME!!!!!

Thanks but no thanks nascar. No wonder your audience is srinking.

I think I will start attending the local dirt track. Should be lots of great side by side racing.
I quit when Mopar quit ...

He was fun to watch ....
Not like I had any skin in the game

NASCRAP died when a Dodge team gave Toiletta the technology, they had never designed a pushrod engine before but all of a sudden they had one! I only attended one race in my life anyway, 1970 Valleydale 500 in Bristol, TN and I was 13, I got to try and walk up the banking, I will never forget that!
I drove my 69' 340 Dart on the Daytona track, but could not walk up the first bank, too steep. Had to go at least 40 or felt like I was going to roll over.

Stopped watching all sports when they went woke
I don't attend any sports events any longer due to the costs. I just went to see the 2025 Sebring race in Sebring, Florida. Only reason I went is because I now live 10 miles away from the track. $100.00 for the ticket and $80.00 to park. Thank God, I brought my own food. I have gone to several NASCAR races in Homestead and stopped that also do to the costs and when you use to be able to close your eyes and tell which make of car just passed, Now, they all sound and look the same.

I support all the local and 100 miles away Dragstrips, dirt tracks and paved, and of course I love my fishing, yes !! Nascar as well, watching all the races on TV.
So this is a vote for nascar and a shout out to our great member for keeping everyone updated and taking his time away from life to do out NHRA and NASCAR pick-em threads, thank you @ocdart

I've never watched a "ball sport" in my 54 years of life. I've always felt they were entitled babies. In auto racing, I've been more I to drag racing than roundy-round stuff. I've always felt handling and braking are for those sissy Europeans.

Ha I always wanted to rally.
.just no place local to do it

I never truly watched it, but I made a point not to watch it when they started letting jap cars compete
You know, I kept hearing that, when the Toyotas first came in. It is a stupid thought. Toyota was the only car made in the USA. The Fords, Chevys, and Dodges were all made in either Canada or Mexico. It was more of an issue for me, that none of the cars resembeled the street versions. All the "race" cars were rear wheel drive, and I think all of the street versions were front wheel drive.
Back in the old days, the race cars were just modified street cars. Hell in the "real" old days, some of the cars were actually driven to the race track. Even the "drag" cars about 75 % were driven to the track. I remember some years ago, a Porsche dealer in Orlando Fl. modified a new Porsche, drove it to Daytona. Raced it in the 24 hours of Daytona, Completed the race, drove the car back to the dealership, and sold it at a nice profit, due to it's collectable status.

They are the automotive equivalent of anchor babies

Just because they are build here doesn't make them American

You put a pregnant gueanie pig in an aquarium and expect the baby to be a fish ?

Nope, still a gueanie pig

And a jap car assembled in the is is still a jap car

I had a friend that drove his race car to the strip with a highway gear and changed it out at the track to race, then changed it back out and drove home. Yes, it was an 8 3/4.

So, Dodges were German and Italian as well as a US car at one time?

Dodge was American
Than German....the new charger is more German then American
Then American again
Now French.......I guess we lost the war...
The French ones I'm having problems with all.their software is locked out...

Thanks for the correction, I thought Fiat was Italian. I believe Lamborghini became a Mopar, not the other way around.

Modern American cars and trucks have the European look, pretty much all ugly and bulky. and all look alike

Lamborghini is owned by vw audi
Fiat is Italian....sorry they own Ferrari too
Bugatti is owned but vw audi too
Land rover was bmw owned they sold to Ford Ford sold to Tata and Ford owed jag
They sold to Tata too ...Ford also owned volvo but think they sold to some Swiss company (volvo xc landrover discovery and Ford Explorer are all built on the same platform)
The only reason mb bought dodge was to get jeep ....after they came out with the ml 4x4 then they dumped it...the dodge charger/Chrysler 300 is built off the mb 210 (e320) and still uses the 5 speed trans
Funny how they all work together

all just a bunch of nascrap! best racings on dirt any ways!! eldora coming up in a few weeks and all the best lucas and wo0 drivers will be battling it out!! seriously, gave up on nascar years ago, nhra soon after!!

That would be the same as you becoming a kraut just because your mom divorced your dad and marries German

If you step daddy is a kraut, does that make you one ?

I think when they figured out they could bunch the cars up together for a more exciting race, that was the beginning of the end. I don't think anyone in NASCAR wants drivers DEAD, but if they can somehow get a lot of wrecks without people hurt, or hurt badly, that's what they're lookin for. Then, they started doing all the stupid stuff @crackedback Rob talked about. Add all of that up and the sport isn't about actual car racing anymore. Like @CichliDart said, NASCAR is a business. It sure as heck is. Like any big business, you get avarice and greed involved and it all goes to hell in a handbasket.

On a different note, I'd still love to see these new drivers drive some bonified 1960s stock cars. With stock based suspensions and bias ply tires. I'm not saying these newer cars are easy to drive, because Lord knows I ain't no driver, but I'd love to see these boys get behind the wheel of say one of Ned Jarrett's old early 60s Galaxies, for example.

The Indy tire fiasco race was another, play to your favorites from the control tower.

My opinion, you know what you have in the car, if the thing is good for 10 laps, you better be pitting. If it goes 15 laps, then that team should be REWARDED for getting a better set up. Everybody and their dead grandparents knew Johnsons car was a scalded dog for 5-6 laps, after that it faded fast and a tire killer at/after 10. Guys like Edwards didn't have the start pace, but could run consistent for 12-15 laps... He would run down Johnson hard after 6 laps. Tower decides that throwing cautions in the interest of safety was the right thing to do. When did the tower... roughly 10 laps where Johnson was dead meat for Edwards.

Manipulate the results just a little bit. SOS That was it for me after all the stuff I've known and seen from the "management" over the years around the "sport".

This "heat" racing is stupid as **** too. A race shouldn't be 3 or 4 heats unless it's local short track or sprint cars, to get to the main.
