If anyone is waiting for parts, Nigel hasn't had power since Saturday like many of us so expect delays. His, like ours, currently show no time of a restoration estimate, but looks like maybe Friday night. High wind and freezing rain just started again, so that won't help the power crews one bit.

Many parts of Ontario will be out for another week by the looks of it...

Some places sure got hit hard. We were lucky, the first bout of it was super light and the steps were a little greasy for a few hours in the morning. Last night we got some blowing snow and woke up to rain.....Not freezing.

So far the power has not been out which is unusual......Normally, it goes out when the clouds pass by.

I can tell you that I am 100% sure that the Canadian linemen are working hard to get the power back on. I've met a lot of them at The International Linemen's Rodeo over the years. I also had the great pleasure of working with a bunch of them that work for a Company named Holland Services. They came to Wilmington, NC after a hurricane in Sept. of 2018. I had a ball out of those hard working guys. Most spoke French with each other, but were fluent in English. My only mistake was when I told one of them that when I took French in high school, my name in class was Jacque. From then on, when I showed up at a jobsite, they all broke into a loud round of "Frer a Jacques"! :BangHead: It was all in good fun and I didn't care. Feel free to correct my spelling above, because it's been 50 years since I took the class and forgot everything I learned beyond Hello and counting past 3....lol.

At work our plant was on NG gen for a week. And throughout distribution were on diesel or UPS backups.(shitty ones)When I was working I could see transformers and lines sparking. Shitty but cool to see at same time. Considering the "devastation" they got power back in great time. Kudos to all the linesman and contractors.
This time around our little 2000 watt inverter couldn't keep up as we needed the furnace, and sump pump, TV, wifi, fridge, freezer and HW tank. Did a temporary rewire on furnace to run off ext cord.
Wnt through some hoops to get a new bigger one. Another Champion from Canadian Tire, they had 19 online i spotted while at work. Sold out online by the time I got off work 7 hours later. Put us on a list and went and picked up later Tues. 5 minutes putting together and running.
Now we're "ready" for the next time.

I learned a lot during Helene last fall too. I will be more ready the next time also, and just hope it doesn't come back around soon. Our city water system was devastated by the floods and we were without water for 2 months. Plenty of bottled water was available to drink and cook with, but toilet flushing was the biggest problem for most folks. I am fortunate enough to have a good creek behind my house, so I dammed a spot up and rigged up a pipe system to catch water to pour in the back of the toilet to flush. It worked well, and supplied more than enough for us and anyone else close by who wanted to use it. We have 20 apartments right next door, mostly young people. They all learned quickly as to what they needed to do. It was harder to convince them that it was fine to walk thru our yard anytime they needed to and get jugs or buckets of water. I bought a sump pump to put in our basement and back feed our pipes by shutting off the cutoff to the city water. I submerged the pump into a 55 gallon barrel of potable water, ran a hose to an indoor spigot in the basement and cut the pump on when needed. It was good enough to take a shower, wash dishes since it also pressurized the water heater. I will have an RV water pump rigged up and ready next time though. The water pressure was very low with the sump pump having to push water to our 1st floor from the basement. I could easily shower and wash my old bald head, but my wife has long hair and it was more difficult for her. Next time (if) I will still put the sump pump in the food grade barrels I have and use that to supply the RV water pump hooked to the 3/4" main cold water line in the basement. That should do a lot better. All this not exactly with the topic here, but maybe it will give others ideas if you ever find yourself in an extended no water situation.

I was hoping my order would be on the way soon but what can you do? They will have to get their households back in order before they can think of going back to work. I'm sure its a big set back.

Nigel's shop area is now showing power restored tonight by Midnight, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that. The Orillia airport area was showing restoration today when I went to bed last night and is now showing Monday night. Means my aircraft engine overhaul will be another week behind as well I guess, was supposed to get dyno run Monday just past.

I received notification today that I have a package on its way
Good to hear! Been a LONG week for all of us over here and glad to have hopefully saved some worry for some! Talked with Nigel and Sher today and they are doing their best to get stuff moving...

Many won't have power for another week yet, some maybe two !

I dont generally listen to the news, so I didnt realize what you all were going through out east until I started seeing posts on here.
I feel for all of you, and hope you get everything back to normal soon.

I think they said still over 14k without power in kawartha lakes area. Might not seem like a lot but that's a small area compared to the total damaged area. So much more doing without.

Ya, we're back on as of Thursday night, Son right next door, but on a different grid, got his back Friday. Father in Law just a bit further down the road got his back yesterday. I burned about $400 in premium running the gennies on and off. More on than off as we had the Granddaughters here for the first 4 days. Wife's old man burned about $300 in diesel for his. Son next door, living alone, just running his in brief runs to power up the furnace, about $200 for the week. Lots of folks finding out that their 20KW Generacs burn $100/day in propane and ran their tanks dry, and the delivery truck couldn't get to them with trees down. No genny then and no propane left for the furnace anyhow! Why I don't have one and have three fireplaces... we also burned about a face cord of hardwood.

Wow, quite the cash outlay, but at least you were warm and had power. If I lived in your neck of the woods, Id be having a generator or two as well. I always thought that a Generac powered by natural gas would be the way to go, no tanks to run dry as long as the gas keeps flowin. Hell, I just sold a Honda 3000 a week ago cause I never use it. Now watch, Ill need it next month.

Thanks Wade, yes our power is back, vut spotty throughout the area. We had to go buy a 2nd gen as the smaller inverter wouldn't keep up with sump pump, furnace etc. And inverter started to f up, was real close to flooding basement, but got it figured out. Was the damn spark arrestor.
Good point Wayne with Propane, we have Nat gas here, so it would be a Generac run off that if we ever do that. Lady neighbour Helen has one, slick as pup poop.
Incredible the amount of damage from downed trees.
@4spdragtop @dadsbee

Wow.....Glad it wasn't worse for you Steve. Mother nature sure knows how to show us who's boss.

Yeah, not bitching here at all Troy, we are very fortunate. Electrician at work advised me how to hook furnace up to gen. That was a must.
Boobtube has a few vids, but this one from Mich shows exactly what we were dealing with.
