Need a couple parts to finish 408

-
Update time.

Got some pistons and rods from a member here on FABO, sounded like I’ll be able to make these work.

I need to take everything to the machine shop. Get the block cleaned up a little and then get the rotating assembly balanced.

Now I need a Camshaft… don’t worry I’ll start a new thread for the **** show that will progress after mentioning camshafts…. I don’t need anything crazy, just fun street car.

Hey Doc, not sure what heads you will be running but if they're aluminum, I'd shave them a bit to bump the CR. Alum heads can handle more than 10:1 CR. It will also depend on how big or small of a cam you choose.

My 408 is at 10.5 CR and runs on pump 93. Street or strip - pump 93 with no issue at all. My $.02!

I have no idea on cam, was going to call a cam company and ask a recommendation.

As for heads, I was just going to run the Speedmaster CNC heads that I have on my 340. I thought if buying another pair but of heads, maybe a different brand but I don’t know if I really need to.

Smart man - call your favorite cam company for a recommendation! I recall speaking to at least 4-5 before deciding on my SFT Bullet cam.

As for heads, I know PBR (rip) seemed to like the Speedmasters. As always, for max performance, use the best heads you can. If it's an ice cream parlor car with your family, you'll have your hands full as-is with a 408. And don't forget about a well-matched torque converter. Done properly, this combo will surely put a smile on your face and advertise your pearly whites for your practice!

Yeah Tony used to like the Speedmaster heads as well, he told me to get them.

I know nothing about cams so I wouldn’t know what anything they say to me means. Maybe one of the companies will have something on the shelf. I was going to run my converter I already have, got it from GTX John here in FaBo a couple years ago. He had it in his car, it’s supposed to be a pretty good one.
