Got a call tonight about moms 1998 jeep Cherokee. Seems the gauges in the dash have stopped working and they took it to a Chrysler dealer.

They told them it will need something new and it will be $1,600 to repair.

But they can wiggle some wires under the dash and they will work while doing this.

So, I think it could be repaired without replacing the dash cluster, or whatever they told them.

So is there anyone in the central Florida area that knows of a good auto elecrtical specialist that they could take it to and not get TAKEN?

Or has anyone had this problem with their jeep and fixed it?

I hate being 1,000 miles away and them call and ask my advise on things like this when I cannot help them

Too many older people get taken advantage of and that just isn't right!

From one of the threads over there on the Cherokee forum, figured it might be worth a shot

"My 98 lost it's gauges once. A search on here indicated that the connection to the instrument panel is often tentative at best. All I had to do was push my cluster back into the dash and it started working again.

If it happens again I will probably pull it, clean all the contacts and add some dielectric grease, but so far, so good."

We'll they went to the dealer and picked it up not having them do the $1,600 repair and all the gauges were working

Have a few places that have been recommended in the area for them to check out to see about repairs

Thanks everyone for the input.
