So I have a 72 Demon, 360 3 speed with an 8 3/4 sure grip. I've been wanting to update the bolt pattern and brakes on it (all drums, SBP). I just saw a 79 volare for sale near me for 600 bucks. Its a Super six (which I would like for other projects anyway) 4 door. Would it be worth picking up to use to upgrade my demon for fairly cheap? Would the master cylinder and spindles and rotors be useful or am I just better off going with a new aftermarket setup?

sure, why not.

the motor is worth at least that alone. the brake stuff will port over, but you'll still need upper arms. i'd make that move and try and use up the volare nose to tail.

Do it to it! The rear brakes are great for getting past the less common A-Body drums, the backing plates will fit your 8 3/4 and then a set of BBP axles have you on all 4 corners (and makes it easier to remember what parts you used.

The complete axle can be swapped, IIRC. You can also pirate the remote trunk release (if equipped), and the radiator and other parts have value. If it's an overdrive stick, that's worth some coin. Talk 'em down to $400 and the front brakes will sell for more than the car.

Yes, you can make it work. IIRC the F-body master cylinder is a two bolt aluminum piece, but they make bolt on adapters. The spindles are a little taller than A-body parts, but this may be beneficial for handling.

Although if the Volare runs, drives, and isn't rusted to the point it's likely to crack in half, you could probably clean it up and resell it at a nice profit instead.

Here's another vote for buying the car. I did something similar with a 78 Volare and after I sold off all the super-six stuff, interior, body parts, seats, and so forth I still sold the remains to a guy who wanted the front suspension. He paid me what I paid for the car and I made over a grand on parting it out.
