need help with 69 chevelle 396 4 speed car....what is it worth?

Just my understanding with these types of Chevy's, is you can't really decode the cars, well not like a Mopar anyway. Even if it is a 138 code car, that doesn't mean that it was a 396 car. I could have been a 454 or any other big block chevy motor.

Is that true? Just wondering? That's just what I've been told. :dontknow:
 

^^ for the up to 68 model. but for 69, it is 136 is he base model malibu, then with the 72 72 on tag, makes it a 396 ss

No cause the 454 was new for the 1970 model year and the 427 never came in an SS Chevelle. So it was either the 396 or 454. Or the 402 from 1970 on. There were also 350 SS cars, but we're talkin about fat motors.
 
it aint worth more than a 68 A body with a factory bb...in that condition i wouldnt pay more than 1500 for it....higher than that, let it rot....
