70 /6 duster Didn't want to start a thread but I'm at a loss and starting to get frustrated,
I'm swaping from a /6 v8 so it will be an alt from a 96 dodge truck. Here's a pic of the wires I need help with. There is 2 green a red a black and a couple others that connect to a 3 prong female plug.

I don't see a red. The two with the alternator brushes pull out of those two connectors. They connect to the two field connectors of your alternator. Does not matter which one.

The wire top left violet? with the black boot and the length of protector sleeve is your temp sender

I can't tell for sure, the bottom right has a ring terminal? Is it large gauge, 12 or 10? It goes to the alternator output stud

I can't tell what the top blue? is

The very bottom connector, is it three terminals in a row? If so it's the transmission neutral safety/ backup lights

and if you can't figure out your current wiring heres a diagram

The bottom right is black and has a broken ring terminal. and yes the plug is 3 in a row. that pretty much sums it up for me. Thanks.

If the top wire is green what colors are the two wires with the brushes hanging out of 'em? They may be "stuck" into the wrong connector(s)

Here's a 70 shop manual or two you can download:

http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=244981

And from MyMopar are somewhat simplified but somewhat useable diagrams:

From the Dart manual posted

The two alternator field connections should be dark blue and dark green. The green only goes one place from one alternator field --to the regulator connector

Went and striped some of the black tape back, it is blue and was just faded were it was exposed. now I have a single brown wire coming off my starter solenoid that is all by its lonesome the diagram shows it goes to a starter relay, where might the started relay be found? Its not the brown wire that goes to the plug as it is in the plug with the other two wires for the neutral/revers.
And then I have a gray or faded black wire that has a plug on the end that I'm thinking is the oil light switch. and there is a gray or faded black ran with the alternator wires and temp wire.

You need to learn to read the diagrams, LOL

Starter relay looks similar to this:

1967-68%20Ply%20D%20C%20Full%20Size%20Starter%20Relay%20SW.JPG

The largest starter wire goes from the starter large stud to the big stud on the relay. The battery main cable also connects to that stud

The brown starter wire connects to the "square" looking screw terminal.

The above two connections are the contacts of the starter relay

The two "push on" connectors of the relay are the coil. "Start" power from ignition goes to one, through the coil, and to ground through the neutral safety switch in park/ neutral.

I'm sure the grey is your oil sender wire

The one with the alternator wiring? Did you check one with a "push on" connector (green) should go to the regulator

Horns is also dark green so MAKE SURE you have the right one. I don't know what else "is out there" near the alternator

Does this car have AC?

I meant the starter solenoid but I wasn't thinking right last night lol. But I think I have it all figured out now.

No a/c. And my horn works so I don't believe its missing any wires. I'll grab another pic of it here in a bit
