This is a follow-up to my rocker thread down in the engine forum.

It turns out that I wiped a lobe on the cam. Not real bad, but bad enough to have to replace the cam an lifters. No other signs of internal damage. Nothing in the oil or filter.

I can get a deal on a new MP purple shaft cam. $240 Can. for the cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers, and all the little pieces in the heads until you get to the valves.

Here is my setup.
360 +.040
10.5 :1 comp
Magnum heads ported, 2.02 valves, 1.6 rockers
M1 dual plane intake
1 inch spacer
750 Holley Vaccumn
1 5/8" headers
MSD dist, 6AL box and blaster2 coil
2800 stall
reverse manual 727
4:10 gears
26" tires

I can get either of these 2 cams

#P4120231 484/484 for total lift of .516

#P4120233 509 cam for total lift of .542

Which would you get?

I have to order this today to get this price.

The 484 should be just about right for your combo, especially with the 2800 stall. If you had a higher stall converter, you could easily run the 509, but you have to watch the bottom end torque with these cams. I'm running the 484 in my 360 and it needs more gear and stall to get off the line better - which I'm taking care of this time.
Now, Jack me bye, where did you find all that for $240.00 CDN - fess up. :)

The guy at the local Chrysler parts counter does me the odd favor and he happens to be the owners son. Comes in handy, especially when he wants to see me finish this thing.

I would suggest the smaller of the two also......because of the converter.....even then it is gonna be a bit much for the 2800 converter......a 3200 stall would be perfect...but you can't pass up the deal

Well, I did it. I ordered the 484. Now I am going home to check my valves for spring bind and make sure that all the valves stems are the proper height. Just have to make sure that something like that wasn't the original problem maker.

whitey,
I don't know what you mean by retro fitted. They oil up through the push rods similar to the way the chevy's do. It's not a roller, it's hydraulic flat tappet.

OldVart,
The old cam had a total lift of .509 and the new one will be .516. I'm not sure what the springs are rated for as I didn't put them in, but they were part of the cam package for the old cam. (That's what the previous owner tells me)
