Hello, new to the forum here! I'm doing a 318 swap on my '71 Dart Swinger with a /6. I called around my area and there's only 1 transmission place that has a 904. It's an old core and they'd have to rebuild it. Said it would be between $800-$1000. Through JEGS I see TCI Street Fighter, and Performance Automatic Stage 2 in my price range. I'm needing some advice on which I should go with. I've read some bad reviews here about TCI mainly around 2011-2012 time frame. Have they gotten any better? My 318 will only be putting out 300hp if I'm lucky but in the future that may change to a 400hp engine so that's why I'm not considering the Street Rodder. Has 2.76 gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

*Edit*
I just found out about Cope Racing Transmissions. They have a stock 904 for $695, that's a hell of a deal. How would a stock 904 handle 300-400hp?

Livewire, I pulled my 904 out of my 69 318 Barracuda 6 years ago. It was running fine at the time, with no issues. I just wanted to switch to a 4 speed, which has kept my wife from my car. Anyway, the 904 is yours for $100 if you want it. The challenge will be to get it from me in Ontario, Canada. I can get it to the Buffalo, NY border easily.
Let me know if you are interested.

I would love it but I don't even know how much it would cost to get it here to Texas... let alone if it would survive the trip!

We took our 71 valiant to Cope Racing Transmissions and he fixed a problem that we had with one the someone else built..

I recommend him, he's a good guy...

My old trans guy that I used for years is now gone, but he used to recommend heavy duty clutches and shift kit in his builds and they lasted a long time... I had a 904 built with the heavy duty clutches and shift kit that went over 250,000 on a build until I had to strip the body as it was getting too old and rough, but the trans still ran great...

Ask John Cope what he recommends for his build...
