New Comp cam issues

I know what your guy probably thought. He likely was thinking about the early 273 engines that did have solid lifters. Also, a lot of people think that since the T/A and AAR cars came with adjustable rockers that they had solid lifters.....but unfortunately Mopar didn't do that. Keep us posted on how it runs. What cam did you end up with?

Xe 268h

It was just a little bigger than the summit one I had in it but it made a huge difference with the heads and air gap intake next week it will get a 750 dominator instead of the 650 edelbrock that's on it now

I will keep you posted! Lots of people have done it without a problem I was also told that putting 340 heads on a 318 would make it a dog out of the hole but it rips
Well that all depends on how the engine is built. As long as you make up for the 340 head compression loss on the 318, which you did, all is well. Flat tappet solids won't last long on a hydraulic lobe. You can get by with rollers putting solids on a hydraulic lobe, but flat tappets generally won't last. You would have been better off using the Comp 270S.

We are going to all find out together how long it lasts I will keep you posted! And keep in mind I use this car as a daily driver rain or shine!

I hope you have good luck with it. What's the lash set at?

Yes XE 268H
FWIW, I have that same cam in my 340. I also have headers, Air Gap and Eddy 625 Thunder Series carb. It has been in for about 20 years now. At first, I thought there was a problem, because I heard a similar noise. I thought a lifter was bad or something, but everything checked out. It has been flawless for 20 years, just a bit noisy, like @RustyRatRod said.

12 thounds
It MIGHT last a little while if that's tightened up. Maybe like half. The issue is and again, it's the same issue that cause the noise in the first place, the aggressive lobes on the XE camshaft. Those are very aggressive lobes. Sticking a solid lifter on top of them ain't the best idea. Now if it was an older slow rate of lift lobe like say on an old Erson, or older Isky or some such, then it would last. I don't see it happening here. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm hoping you are too if not oh well lesson learned good thing I have a stock pile of 318s to run into the ground

Well, should something happen, just clean it up and put a sho nuff solid cam back in it. Lesson learned. Who knows though? It might last. I hope it does.

Agree, 0.012" lash is too loose for sol lifters on a hyd lobe. I would aim for 0.006" max at operating temp.
