New door seals

Having problem with new door seals, rubber seems to be to thick. How do you soften the rubber, I'm trying not to mess with the door adjustment. Any suggestion, thanks Ray

Every time I've replaced door seals, I've had to adjust the door striker plate and readjust them again when the seals break in.
