I'm buying a 1969 Dart GT, all factory original with a 273ci and automatic. I don't have the VIN or any specifics yet, so was wondering if anyone could tell me what trans (727, 904) this car is likely to have and what rear diff? I hope it's an 8 3/4.
Thanks for any insight.
Mark

Welcome aboard!
Is it all original? Without having seen it, or any paper work (build sheet), most cars of that set-up, will most likely have a 904 trans, and either 7-1/4" or 8-1/4" rear end. If it was an ordered car, original owner could have checked it off with a 727 trans and a 8-1/4" rear. Maybe another member here will have more info than this.

I had a 69 gt 318 car had the 904 and 7 1/4. I don't think the 8 1/4 was avalable in A-bodies untill 73.

Welcome to the best site for our A-bodies.
As far as the rear, look at the rear from the back of the car. If you see the bolts to remove the diff cover it's not an 8 3/4. there is a thread somewhere that has drawings of the different rears, I'll look for it. But this should get you started.

I wish this guide would get edited to correct the misleading or incomplete info. Those covers on an 8 1/4 are round......not oval.....and the application years are wrong. The B-bodies started them in '69, the B-vans in '71, C-bodies in '70, A-bodies in '73, and 1/2 ton PU's in '72. Year ranges and models are incorrect in the 8 3/4 and 9 1/4 sections too.

Welcome aboard, like stated above it may have been ordered with the 8 3/4 for towing purposes, as far as trans , same story, I have seen some wierd combo's but normally it would be 7 1/4 904 trans. I had a 70 dart with a slant 6 , with 8 3/4 open, never know.

I totally agree with JTKAAA07, that you could order a car with a specific suspension/rear end. I once owned a 67 Barracuda that came was order from the factory with a 273-2V, 727A trans, 8-1/4" 3:23 SG rear, and H.D. suspension. I bought it from the original owner, and he showed me all the paperwork on the car (window sticker, certicard, repair reciepts, etc.). Still wish I had the build sheet for it.

Welcome to FABO from SoCal, Mark. I think you're going to have fun here.
Post up some pics of your '69 when you get it. We love carporn!

Welcome to FABO, Mark. Best of luck with the purchase and post some Car **** Photos when you can.
BTW, my '71 Dart GT came equipped with an 8 & 3/4 rear end with the 727 automatic transmission. Let us know what you wind up with.

I'm afraid something isn't right there. There wasn't a 727 option behind a 273 that year and the 8 1/4 didn't come out until '69 in a B-body.

Thanks for all the replys. Looks like I am picking up a crate 440 (new, still in the box) with the car. Don't have specs on that either but the lady's brother bought the crate motor for his wrecked '68 Charger and never got to it. He recently died.
So, I think I can get the car and 440 for a very reasonable price, which means of course that I will be looking for a big block case 727 and an 8 3/4 rear that I can narrow!

Glad to be getting back into the fold. I am a life long (so far) Mopar freak and have owned many, including a 24K original miles '68 Hemi Road Runner and a '74 'Cuda 360.
Had to sell those to start the family, but my son is now 21 and I am ready to jump back in!
