Doesn't post #23 answer that?does it hang lower then the k-frame?
Thanks for the pics! Is that the new pan with the windage tray built in? I've used the Kevko 6 qt pan before and know it's a good piece. I'm trying to find info from someone who's used this new style pan.I bought a Kevko pan for my 408 stroker, Enclosed are some pictures with it mocked up to a K-Frame, I like that it wont hang down below, like my 8 qt Moroso pan used to, i nailed that thing a couple of times lol
Yes sir, they have a nice pick up that goes with it as well as the mounting stud to replace one of the main cap boltsThanks for the pics! Is that the new pan with the windage tray built in? Sorry, can't help you there as my engine was out of the car and on the engine stand.Okay, just to bring this older post up to date, I have this pan with windage tray, pickup and the pickup attaching bolt. So far I've not been able to figure out how to feed the pickup through the slot cut in the windage tray for it. Doesn't help that the engine is in the car and I'm lying on my back. Am I missing something easy?
That is a very nice looking pan and the integrated windage tray is a neat feature. I'll keep Kevko in mind for future projects.
No suggestions on installing it in the car. My first thought is you may not have enough height between the crank and k frame to install in the car. Might have to rotate the pick-up out of the way of the tray, slide the pan in place, then rotate it back down into its space.
Don't feel alone, I have days like that as well. You may have to lift the motor up further for more room to maneuver the pan. You can use modeling clay with some oil on the pan side to measure your clearance with the pan in place. Just use some sort of barrier on the pickup so you don't get pieces of clay embedded in the screen. Good luck!I'm a bit more energetic today, so I went back out to the garage. Noticed the pan was hitting the motor mounts/brackets when I was trying to maneuver it around so the pickup would go into the cutout for it in the windage tray. So, I removed them.
Still couldn't get the pan over the pickup. Close, but the pickup's corners hit the opening for it. So, I removed the windage tray temporarily because I wanted to make sure the pan bolted correctly to the block. Bolted it to the block with four bolts, and it does fit.
Next, I wanted to ensure that the pickup was off the bottom of the pan the right distance. I did measure the distance from the block to the bottom of the pickup and also the pan depth, but I wanted to eyeball it actually all hooked up. Tried to shine a light into the drain hole. No luck seeing inside. I remembered I had bought an endoscope a while back, so I located it and found out the cable end was wrong for my Samsung cell phone. (You'd think one thing would go right.) So I ordered one I think will work from Amazon. Will be here Saturday.
In the meantime, I've pretty much concluded that I'm gonna have to trim the windage tray opening for the pickup. Just don't see any way it's gonna go in as is. That job will have to wait until I confirm that the pickup is correctly located off the bottom of the pan.
By the way, when I removed the windage tray, I discovered an extra hold down bolt for the tray in the bottom of the pan. Apparently it had been wedged between the windage tray and the pan when Kevco had bolted the tray to the pan, and it fell into the pan when I removed the tray.
I did consider just putting the OEM tray back in, but then I wouldn't be able to bolt the pickup tube to the special main bearing bolt/stud for the center main bearing. Not without modifying the tray, anyway. And if I have to do that, might as well just modify the Kevco tray.
Finally, when I left the garage, as a matter of habit I locked the door and shut it. Just as I did so, I remembered my keys had fallen out of my pocket onto the garage floor under the Barracuda, and I had forgotten to put them back in my pocket. So now I'm locked out of my garage. Been looking to see if I have an extra key, but haven't been able to find one.
And so this simple job goes. . . .
