I recently acquired my next project. I know I don't need a other one but I got an itch and has to scratch it! I've been wanting another square body dodge truck since I sold my 85 W150. So I got this one last Friday. It's a 88 D100 with a 3.9 v6. It's going to be swapped with a 5.9 magnum eventually. I plan on doing all the little stuff and finishing the dart before I do the swap tho. It does run and drive so I can play with it and enjoy it until that day comes. Enjoy!

Nice Truck

Looks like you were lucky enough to get the 4.5" bolt pattern hubs, not the 5.5" like in '89.

You know I haven't even measured them yet. I was assuming they are 5 on 4.5. My plan is to run some steel wheels with poverty caps like on my dart. I plan on lowering it a couple inches and running some 255/60/15s on the rear and maybe 235/60s on the front. But that's way in the future lol

225 70r15s here on this latest truck I picked up out of Alabama.

Oddball 5.5 hubs, had to do some machining on the center hole to get these Aluminums to bolt onto this '89.

Happy with it now, but Ma Mopar makes you work for it.

Yea. On mine someone used spacers to avoid doing that. The spacers gotta go! I'm not a fan of them.

OK, maybe you have the 5.5 large bolt pattern back in behind your spacers?

I was going to try to use 5.5 to 4.5 spacer wheel adapters. But even the center hole of the adapters was 1/8" too small.

Found the '95 Ford aluminum wheels and made them work.

Cleaned up the stock steel rims and painted the outer face silver on those as spares.

P.S.
There is a huge weight difference between the steel rims and the aluminums.

Less rotating mass to spin up on the aluminum, better getup and go.

I'm the odd one. Most desire the tin grill. I prefer this look much better. It is more refined and matches the body nicely. Those are sweet trucks.
I agree don't get me wrong I love the tin grille trucks but there is just something about the 80s I really really like. And I prefer the cross grille over the early 80s square pattern

I'll have to check I'm not sure. I thought all the half tons had 5x4.5. I know my 01s were and my 85

Bolt pattern changed in 85 to 5.5
I just sold a short box 2wd 440 auto to my cousin, way too much engine, but a fun truck.

@George Jets found this on the ramcharger fourm. So according to this mines is 5.5
'72-74, '80-93 W series and '85-93 D series is 5.5 on 5, '72-84 D series, '74-79 RC & TD and '75-79 W series are 4.5 on 5.

Hey Kevin! That will make a nice ride around truck. I have an 88 D100 long bed with a 318 that I'm gonna swap a 98 5.9 Magnum into, hopefully this coming winter. My 88 is the 5.5 bolt pattern. I'm gonna keep it 5.5 because it has factory rallye wheels. I have a early 70's D100 8 3/4 to swap into it, along with some 74 Power wagon 8 3/4 truck axles with 5.5 bolt pattern. Mine wanders all over the road so bad it's like sawing the steering wheel on a dirt track car....lol. The frame is cracked where the steering box bolts on, so check yours to see if it may be the same. When you get time, read thru @George Jets truck thread on here. He's posted a TON of great info in his thread that will help out. Hope you're doing well and old white doggy too.

Hey bud good to hear from you. That sounds like a good plan. I will leave mine the 5.5 pattern too and find some wheels that I like. I will check that steering box out. I've read that is a weak point and they make a plate that goes there the fix it. That very well could be my issue. Unfortunately Marshall the white dog is no longer with us. It broke my heart he was my buddy.

Poor little Marshall :( I'm sure it hurt....been thru it myself too many times. Very sorry for your loss. I'm going to pull my steering box off and weld the cracks in the frame, and probably plate it too. It already has the diagonal brace that runs over beneath the radiator. I've gotta move my 88 to get to my bush hog soon, so I'll try to remember to take a pic of the wheels when I do.

These maybe look like the late 80s to mid 90s Ford truck and van wheels. A long time ago my brother got a set of aftermarket wheels from a Ford with same bolt pattern but they did not fit the center hub on his 90 Ramcharger. Had to open up the center the hole just like that. So I guess Ford used a different diameter center and we need to look out for that when getting wheels for the Dodges.

Did a little messing around on the truck today. I looked at the frame around the steering box like @George Jets And @JDMopar and I talked about it appears someone has already add the plate. Or is this factory? The coil spring on the drivers side looks a little wonky to me it appears like it has been replaced at some point it looks newer than the rest of the suspension but it does not look straight to me it looks curved. I'm wondering if it isn't seated correctly. I do not notice it on the passenger side.
