Yep, my cam from summit was perfect, and the lobs had a slight degree slant from one side to the other that could be seen with my eyes, that makes that lifter spin for sure. I have never had a cam shaft problem, totally agree.

It's very easy to prime a slant 6 without turning it over. Just get something to make a pressure tank out of and push it in the oil sender port with air pressure.
i have a "rachet pump" prime all ny engines with it .... i take a pic tomorrow

To prime a /6 on a new build -- how about leaving the rocker shaft loose / pushrods out until after you spin it over with no spark plugs in? Then there's no force on the lifter / cam lobe surface. Then once your oil pressure comes up, put the pushrods / rocker shaft in place, cold lash the valves a little loose, and start it up.
I use the ratchet pump
Tap into the oil pressure sensor
Can pump 4 or 5 quart in and spin the engine over by hand a couple of times while pumping
Do that for all my fresh engines
Works to find Internal oil leaks too

i jut hung a bag of oil up and let gravity do its thang. main thing is to get the bit from there and into the pump nice and full
turned the motor over small amount every now and again.
if you are using gloopy 20W50 its so damn thick that any air bubbles get crushed so small by the pump pressure that your bearings don't see a dry spell
would not risk it with 0w30 flows too easy, flow is quick and the pressure is lower, air bubble could be the length of the oil gallery and hardly get compressed as the oil at the other end piddles out of the bearings and lifter bores.
bearings will see a dry spell.
it only gets thick when it gets hot

Maybe it's time to send new lifters out to have the bases reground correctly.

Most of them are ground off center. Out of a set of 16, your lucky to get 2 decent ones

Way back in the 80s, I used a metal sprayer just like that to build an experimental flamethrower, fueled by kerosene. It worked, but I knew it was dangerous and only sprayed it a few times before taking it apart..

I have a brand new Oregon Cams 2106 cam here, with new lifters and springs to match. Did Oregon grind these lifters or get them from somewhere else?
Im going to need a cam for my stock 69 340 build ....never thought would have to have it ground...just can't find anything that's good anymore
Oregon does reface lifters, if You have a question, You should be asking them not Us. If they supplied brand new lifters with the reground cam, I'd call & ask them if they are checking them, they have been a standup operation.....
