New shock question?

Have a 72 Swinger. Taking the old rearend out and putting a 70 B body 8 3/4 in. I've looked at both 72 a body and 70 b body shocks. They are differant numbers. Should I just wait till I have the rear in and get some measurements before ordering?

I was hopping to get the 8 3/4 in before the snow flies, here in N. Michigan. Going to drop the old springs/rear/shocks all at once.
