Im assuming this is a carb issue, if its an issue at all, but when i start up my car, is steadily increases rpms and it will continue up to 1500 rpms i thing, but i kick the gas pedal real quick and it jumps(as expected) then it dies down to around 700 rpms, and typically dies off after a few seconds. i know my idle screw is a little high, at least i think it is, this does it no matter the season though, it did it over the summer and it did it earlyer today when i was making sure it was still alive.

its a 318 from 73 and has a 4bbl carter (AFB i think).

Don't worry about that, nothings wrong just the car is cold and is warming up thats about it. My old grand prix did that all the time.

you have what is called a fast idle cam on the carb for went the choke is engaged..

the fast idle cam can be adjusted to lower the idle speed if you want....but if you have an electric choke ...the choke should be off in a few minutes..

the cam has steps on it.....that is why you are getting different rpm as you move the throttle the linkage moves on to a different portion of the stepped cam...

You can go to the Edelbrock site and download the tuneup booklet for the AFB. It may or may not be the exact model you have, but it's probably close enough.

Yup. fast idle cam. Something these youngin's with E.F.I. never dealt with.

I ALWAYS used to prefer hand chokes.

Thanks guys, I was hoping it wasn't a big deal but if it was a big deal I wanted to make sure it was taken care of.
