I have no use for the heater and I want the engine bay to look cleaner when its painted and the new engine is in there. What are the pros/cons to not running a heater at all (aside from the obvious warm/cold stuff)? My car is a 67 GT convertible and I can't think of a time I will ever be driving it when having a heater will be necessary. Does not routing fluids through the heater mechanism change the dynamics of cooling the engine in any way - good or bad? Is this as easy to do as it would seem to be?

On 67 -69s at least, without AC, the coolant is always circulating through the heater core, so it will change the dynamic BUT I doubt it will cause issues. Many are running bypassed right now

Heater delete was a factory option.
Just cap/plug the two heater hose outlets at the water pump and intake manifold.
You'll have to either come up with the rare passenger side fresh air vent or figure out a way to cap the fresh air hole in the bottom of your cowl behind the dash.

The answer to the question........Home run. :)

Other than no defrost/defog capability, there's no downside. The avatar car has no heater box and is driven on the street as well as at the track. I run a hose essentially just bypassing where the heater core would be.
Pic to see what mine loooks like.

Without a defrost/defog I doubt that it would pass a safety inspection.

Keep in mind, as well, that A/C equipped cars had a vacuum operated heater valve, So circulation was stopped or greatly reduced when the heater was "off" or on A/C

It'll be a ***** when the windows fog all up.
Given my current driving plans for it, I doubt there will ever be a driving scenario I will be in that fogged windows will be a concern. Never say never I suppose, but since it is a convertible I think I have an option for defogging if it ever does happen

Thank you...yes that is the outcome I was hoping for. Great pic and that looks very clean. I am going the next step and having the space where the heater would have been welded over and cleaned up and then painted same as engine bay.

I intend to leave the controls in in the dash in place so it will look like it does, and I also know some mechanics who will do my inspection at my house so passing is not too much of a concern...but I do see your point.

I doubt an inspection would be much of an issue, since heater delete was a factory option.

I think when cruising at night and temps do drop you could get foggy windshield and warm defrost would be nice at that moment. It may also affect the resale value of your car if deleted?

I would guess a Saavy inspector would see the controls he’s leaving in the dash and wonder where the rest of it is.
A saavy inspector would know heater delete was available from the factory.
As long as the heater box is gone, the controls are only held in by 2 screws- pull 'em out and store them in a box for the next guy.
Make a block off plate to mimic the factory heater delete or just get a correct repro bezel.

You are lucky in Alberta. In Ontario, there is a tablet based inspection where it has to be done on-line. Photos are taken (of condition AND measurements) and recorded by "the man". The tablet is GPS located and can only be used at the licensed inspection station. As the system progresses, from what I have been hearing, an on-line inspector be may be interactive, effectively doing the inspection with the mechanic.

Too much sleazy under the table stuff going on I guess.

I get my inspections done in my home garage by my mechanic friend using an official doc he gets from his shop. $50 and its done. Submit that when I register the vehicle and we're good to go. No plans to cut corners or do a sloppy job that wouldn't normally pass a shop based inspection, but this is def easier.

Do you need an insurance inspection or am out of province?

Insurance inspection= easy peasy
Out of province = not so much

Crazy with the technology eh. Probably a good thing and also keeps a lot of garbage off the roads I suppose…

I agree. I tried as well. My shop is fully equipped and has a hoist.......LOL, that's when I found out about the GPS thing. :BangHead:

Absolutely........They changed it for a reason.

Personally, I wouldn't stake my name or reputation on anything less than perfect (but $500 cash is a motivator for some)......If I couldn't defend my actions at an inquest, it was probably wrong in the first place.
