Not so much a clone Hemi Dart

You’ve got a lot of stuff going on over there! That looks like a 283 sitting beside your mammoth hemi!
A very nice runner there, and that Hurst stick sure takes me back.
Are your hemi valve covers from Indy? I like the satin finish like you have. But thanks for the update. Nice to see all the progress.

thank you!! Your car is certainly an inspiration to get mine going again. Hoping to see some 1/4 mile times from yours this year! Yeah valve covers are Indy. They’re suppose to be polished. I haven’t buffed on them in a few years so they look a little dull. I plan to remedy that.. lol. Yeah my roadrunner kind keeps me distracted. It’s my Main Street beater but will run 10.90’s on pump fuel through the exhaust. I drive it everywhere. I think it fills my need to get the dart going.. absolutely love that car as it’s a good car but certainly not too nice to put sideways in the road at every opportunity! Lol

Well haven’t posted in a while. It’s been a screwed up year for me. Spent spring through early summer working 13 hr shifts 6-7 days a week for 4 months to do an outage. Came out if that and my back had gotten so bad I needed surgery.

I did have some paint work real-done on the back of the Dart while I was working a lot.

While I was waiting for my surgery I made it out with dads car once. I have the suspension figured out but the car has been running weird and got to the point that day it was all over the map et wise and doing intermittent popping and banging. It still went a 6.44 on the brakes. We did figure out it had a distributor pickup that was going out. It’s running real good now (on the street) but I haven’t been able to drive it at the track.

I also had done some porting on my six pack intake. I took the roadrunner out to a track rental at Ubly right before my surgery. The car is about a tenth slower with the convertor it currently has. With the porting it picked up what it had lost with the tighter vert.

Thanks for the update 68! Work makes the world go round but bad news on the back. Hope it’s better now. Great pictures, the Dart looks terrific. Is it going to be back together soon?

Road runner specs

400/512 source kit. Dish pistons 10.5:1 pump gas
Indy SR heads ported by MCH. Kind of inbetween standard and MW port window.

4.10 gear with a 9.5” converter

I just picked up another Indy intake M/W, I did some work on it and tossed it on the roadrunner. Built a BLP carb for my dads car but it runs so good I’ll probably leave it on the roadrunner. Car is an absolute beast now… I need to swap the convertor back and run it uncorked!

@Malex it won’t let me insert your quote.. you’ve been a huge help on these headers!

I’m back on the dart, fitting headers. Luckily someone put out good instructions on how to get the drivers header on, thanks for that!! I had to run k frame spacers on mine, I have the engine @located where the original 383 was sitting.

Sure is nice to see it coming along. Mine are so so close at that point too. I maybe revisiting that - pending boredom. As I recall the hemi is built so it won’t be too far behind now. Love your Runner, makes me miss mine, sold it in the 90’s like a dumbass.

Wow! Nice bird.

My 2 favorite cars in my lifetime. My roadrunner cause she’s not perfect and I hammer the hell out of it with a smile on my face. And I had a 85 iroc I built a healthy 350 for, t5 5 speed with a 373. Red, black interior. I love the Dart but there’s a point where you spend so much that it subtracts from the fun factor, although the car was stupid fun on the street with a faceplated 4 speed!

YES! It sure makes it better when it don’t matter too much when you got to take around out of something. These are still getting spanked regularly over here. Ha

I love that 67, my buddy in high school had a 68 with same colors. RS/SS small block 4 speed. His had the nose stripe. I wanted that car in the worst way. He sold it without telling me….

I have a 68 GTS H code car That I’ve ran a hemi in for about the last 15 years. Currently upgrading the engine a bit. It’ll still be a street car.

Here’s a pic from the 70’s when my dad had it.

What engine, trans and rear were in the car when you dad had it?

Dana 60 (out of a 70 hemi cuda that became a roundly round car) with a 513, high compression 440 with a tunnel ram, and hemi 4 speed. He bought the car back in 1972, still had the original 383 in it at that point.

Well with the k frame spacers I realized I was going to need to space the oil pan down as well due too the drag link running through it. Put out some feelers yesterday and a friend right down the road was able to help me out with this trick oil pan flange he had made for a project. Should make a perfect spacer. I was going to pull the pan anyway because I’m going to add tubes to the oil drain backs to direct the oil past the rotating assembly. This project is coming together quite well. Just need to figure out the front dress and rad/fan situation.

That RR hits hard on the street.

Ok, first round of Picasso RTV job complete. Let this cure then I’ll add the tray and pan. Speaking of tray it needed some drain back.

Quite a difference in plenum volume between the barton and MP. Barton ports were also considerably bigger at the head openings. Didn’t take a whole lot to match it up. Ray said port match it and don’t touch anything else..
