OEM Pinion Snubbers

Recently a member started a wanted ad for a specific pinion snubber.

That started a chain reaction of all kinds of info good and bad regarding snubbers.

The parts books are not particularly helpful as there are no part numbers on the "support" that I have seen.

There are part numbers on some of the rubber snubbers

What I can say with 100 percent certainty.

This is a OEM snubber from a mid factory run from 1967, Dart, 7 1/4, 274 2bbl, 904 auto.

If you have a car, A Body or not, that you know the full history of and can say with 100 percent certainty that the snubber came on the car, post a photo of it and what it came off of.

No photo, But as having a built 383 4 spd car over 30 years ago, and reading the MP books, I've always had an eye for em. All I CAN say, for certain, is, I've seen em on alot of different cars, some that looked like they NEVER got Tapped on the floor pan. Now my Old Coronet (I miss You Baby girl) ? I put an adjustable one on Her. With the 383 Mag I built (upgraded), and the Stick? I SHOULD HAVE added a 1/4" steel plate over it. We Had FUN in Her!!!!!!! Many high RPM Clutch Dumps with Sticky Mickeys !

I can say that the snubber on my 7 1/4 has contacted the body on occasion.

I'm guessing mine is weight in the rear of the car and bottoming out!

1973 8 1/4 I definitely cleaned 49 years of gunk off of this thing. I am not the original owner, so I cannot verify that it came with it from the factory.

Oh yeah, that 8 1/4 snubber has about 2 hours of degreasing, cleaning, rust removal and painting. It was caked in grease and somewhat rusty when I got it.

My 67 7 1/4 snubber had a tone of cracked on oil and grit / dirt.

Dish washer detergent makes a great parts cleaner.

Plus it is suprisingly easy on the hands!

I credit all the caked on grease for much of the good metal on my car!

Unless you had stone stock springs, the little OEM snubber was all but useless. Even the XHD springs held it too far from the floor to make contact. They can surely work in the right circumstances. That said, if you have a good fresh pair of XHD springs or SS springs you really don't need a snubber, since the front segment of those springs are so stout. With a four speed and slicks on the strip, maybe, bot other than that......meh.
