Oil be darn

So I went through the flow chart thread. I thank you for contributing heavily!! It looks like @.500 the stock 308 flows 207, the SM flows 240 and the trick flow flows 281. I also saw where you @PRH were able to achieve significant improvement with a bit of tweaking on the speedmasters.

I've previously built a motor so far from stock it wasn't much fun to drive. I don't want to land there with this motor. What can I expect with an ootb SM?

If you’re having the shop assemble the complete engine, I presume they’d want to inspect the heads before installing them.

The manufacturing processes for that stuff has gotten better thru the years…….and the heads are often good to go right ootb.

Trust…….but verify.

Got the pistons figured out SUM-SBM3600-30 should give a nice bump up in compression and still be street gas friendly. With a 65cc head I should land at 10.2. @Car Nut Thanks for the EARLYP discount code, saved a few hard earned bucks.

Looks like @MidnightSwinger hooked me up with some very nice heads, thats the last big piece of the build. Now I have to put the parts in the shops hands and wait. Pretty interested in what the motor dyno's out at.

Yellow duster was saying the heads he received had a 60cc chamber instead of 65. My build should land at 1-.2 with the 65cc, so we will see. Should have the heads in hand in about a week or so.

Gonna have some 308 core heads left over the have at least been port matched. I'll take a closer look to see what bowl blending has been done. Also some 20 over pistons with almost no miles on them.

Using the stock deck height, I get .017" in the hole at TDC for those pistons. Oughtta get some decent squeeze.

Thats the same number my shop came up with. Question is how close is the actual deck height to the published, and are they 60 or 65cc chambers. I figure either way we can tweek with gasket choices.

I wouldn't. I'd go with the .028 and let compression fall where it will. It's not like it's gonna detonate with quench AND aluminum heads. Ain't happenin.

In fact, I'd zero deck that bad boy and run the .028 gasket.
