Well, need some basic help. How do I check the oil and where do I add oil? Appreciate any advice.

check level via the dipstick (metal 'loop') poking up through the hole in the alternator bracket and oil is added through the driver's side valve cover once the cap marked 'oil' is removed.

Maybe try to find an owner's manual?? Basic stuff....or even a FSM.

Got it, thank you! I saw a second metal loop at the back of the engine I think is transmission fluid?
So, with that, the level is right below the add line. So add a 1/2 qt?
Last question, should I change the oil filter as well? How do you know that needs changing?

unless you know when the oil and filter were changed last it's a good idea to do both. drain all the old oil via the oil pan drain bung first of course. refit the bung and a new filter (smear some oil on the sealing ring) then fill to the full mark on the dipstick. run the motor, switch off and recheck/fill the level again.
neil.
ps, yes that's the transmission dipstick at the back by the firewall.

Check the transmission fluid hot in Neutral with the engine idling. The reading you get cold will be incorrect. Go through each gear at idle first (with your foot on the brake) then back to neutral (put the parking brake on).
Fill the transmission fluid (if it needs any) through the transmission dipstick tube. You will need a funnel or use the nozzle that comes with oil container. Put your finger over the end until it's right on the dipstick tube and then slip the nozzle in.

all that and.... when actually checking the level push the clean dipstick fully down into the tube and immediately remove it. if not the oil 'splashing' about in the trans' will give a false reading on the stick.
neil.
