Oil Filter Won’t Budge

-
I haven't followed this post really close, but did the op ever get the filter off?

The OP tore the filter can to shreds trying to get it off, cut his wrist on the razor sharp shards, bled out on his garage floor, and his body has yet to be discovered.

 I hope not. I have had to rip through the can and force the base off the threads with an air chisel.

Years ago in my machinist days I used these to loosen up Albrecht keyless chucks after a newbie spun a drill in the chuck and locked it up tight. There really wasn't a good place to put a wrench on the chuck to try and unscrew it, unless you wanted to put a pipe wrench on the knurled part and mess up the knurling. The chain on these wouldn't mar the smooth round surface of the chuck. They will snug up very tight, I was surprised when I first used them how well they clamp. Really a great pair of pliers for oddball stuff, irregular shapes, wrestling bolt-on exhaust system components together, when you need a third hand, etc..

I happened to be changing oil in the Honda today and had a used filter lying around afterwards. I got them pretty tight on the filter without collapsing it. It's got some small dents in it, but it's still in one piece. Might be worth a try for the OP.

That's an 18" breaker bar, I'm 190 lbs, and I can't get the vise-grips to spin on that socket. I'm leaning on the breaker bar and it won't even budge. No damage to the socket when you take the pliers back off. They really do punch above their weight.
