Oil Pressure gauge freaking out

See if you can fine tune the engine and smooth the idle some.

How did you adjust the carb?

Vacuum gauge?

If you are running a holley make sure the air bleeds are clean

Vac gauge, funny thing is, I was always told to adjust for highest vac reading. When I get the highest reading (8-9), the engine runs like **** and wants to die, when I get it to run great and not want to die and fires right up first try, it's not at it's highest vac reading, but is stead 7psi

New motor, didn't do it before and I don't know what changed, I'd be scared too.

For me it wouldn't be a big deal to pull the pan and remove/inspect change pump.

I'd be looking at valve train covers off and running. If it had a lifter uncovering the groove it may do the same thing, but I don't know how to check without Intake removal.

If you do pull the pump check the oil block off plug is tight and in at the correct depth.

I'm really scratching the head on this one.

Pulling the pan is last resort for me. Last time I pulled the engine...it was main bearings bad....I'm really hoping this is something not to do with the oil pump or taking the pan off. If I have to pull the engine I will be pretty bummed, so I am trying all other things first.

Is that idle even a steady RPM? It could be jumping in unison with the oil pressure. I wouldn't sweat it, As long as it stays above 15 psi......

This is extremely simple to explain. It's not air in the line, it's not a defective gauge, blah blah, bullshit, bullshit, crap, crap, crap.......

The gauge is simply following the engine RPM. Look at the first video. Although short, I can tell you have a healthy camshaft. The gauge is simply following along with the engine RPM as it runs. The engine RPM is not steady at all at idle with a healthy camshaft so it fluctuates and the oil pressure gauge simply mirrors that. Not a damn thing in the world wrong with anything.

After watching the videos, I agree with Rusty, it looks fine. You have good pressure and with the lumpy idle it jumps around a bit, but nothing to worry about. You have plenty of pressure.

If it's an automatic try adjusting the carb with some one inside with their foot on the brake and the car in gear at idle.
