With a 15,000 mile oil change interval guarantee so it's actually cheaper if you pay to have your oil changed. Oil changers service change is $55.00 here in wisconsin so there. If you don't believe in the warranty or the quality of the product, you are just misinformed. I thought it was BS until I ran it and had it tested by an independent company that analyzes oil for over the road trucks. It's superior to any other oil available.Amsoil is fifteen frikkin dollars a quart, but they give you a free funnel with a 75 dollar purchase. Yeah. Get that.
Read somewhere Rotella has had some of the good additives removed now.You guys favoring Rotella T.......is this the one?

Walmart normally has such in stock
Amazon 3 gallon current offering !

So you know the 3 gallon is in a box with a bladder not jugs. It’s just less convenient.Amazon 3 gallon current offering !
Sounds like wine in a box!So you know the 3 gallon is in a box with a bladder not jugs. It’s just less convenient.
Thanks, I just ordered 3 of them....with free delivery today! SCORE! Now I need filters. Wix not in stock.I think somebody mentioned in this thread somewhere that VR-1 10w-30 is at Walmart for 26 bucks a jug (5 qrts). That's as cheap as about any other jug of oil. Whoever suggested this route, I'm going to have to agree with him!!

Here's what recommended in my 84 D100 Owners Manuel. I'm in Florida, so I use the 20/50.Perhaps related is preferred viscosity......and that may vary by use. I note when my 318 engine first starts, oil pressure comes right up and pegs out pretty high. Later on, when fully warmed up, drops way down. Running 10W-30, which is supposed to be thin and flow better when cold, then thickens up to become more viscous as it warms up. So response at the gauge opposite what theory ought to suggest. Concern is has oil pressure dropped enough to be a concern, or is it pumping as much or more than when cold, but is flowing so much better as there is little resistance to flow?
What is the balance? Is a 15W-40 oil the best all around? Guys running 20w-50........why?
Not the 318, but on a different engine, at startup you can really hear the rocker arms working.......then a moment later when oil pressure starts coming up, engine noise goes all quiet. That may do more damage at each start than whatever flow problems create once warmed up (that engine maintains constant oil pressure even after warmed up).
Is that the ultimate goal?
My Tundra pickup does same as 318. Oil pressure high at cold startup, then falls to low as engine warms up. And stays there no matter what.
The chart basically says that any grade oil 10W30 to 20W50 is good for high ambient temps. The upper ambient temperature is irrelevant as the only thing that matters is the engine temp which is the same regardless of ambient unless you're engine is over heating. The oil grade recommendations change based on the expected low ambient temperatures. Here's what recommended in my 84 D100 Owners Manuel. I'm in Florida, so I use the 20/50.
On top of that, I ran it 120 k miles in a POS Kia Rio . Small 4 cylinder, short trips ( 35 miles max),15k oil and filter change interval and it never used a drop of oil nor did fuel mileage vary. 4.5 quarts in and 4.5 quarts out.
Good grief you really popped a memory with this. Back when the used car market jumped into a new gear and a local Ford dealer wanted to also offer a warranty of sorts, I was their 1st UCD pre delivery tech. Once in a while a customer/buyer would approach me, "What type oil do you recommend for the Thunderchicken, whatever they're buying ?". Me, I don't care if you put baby oil in it so long as you keep it changed. When you can't see the markings on the stick through the oil, change it. Yep, I was quoted. UC manager told me "no more talking to customers".
Between the 30 and 20w50 which do you think seems better? 7000rpm blast was eith 30 or 20w50? Just curious since I've only ever used 30wt straight in my 360 dodge dart sport. I've considered using 15/40 or even 20w50 just never have. Seems to be happy with the 30wt.I have found this to be true. I have run Valvoline straight 30 or 20w50 racing oil for 50 years in everything from a High Performance 273, to a 96 Neon DOHC ACR, to a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. The oil and filter gets changed every 3,000 miles and I have yet to have an oil related failure, and the 273 and Neon would get wound up to 7,000 rpm on a regular basis. 250,000 miles on both with the Cherokee having only 150,000 miles on it, none of them use a quart between oil changes to this day.
Engine Masters did a show on hp vs oil weight. I suggest to anyone to watch it. You might be surprised. No, I’m not giving up the answer but I will give the link.Between the 30 and 20w50 which do you think seems better? 7000rpm blast was eith 30 or 20w50? This is a recent story about STP oil treatment. I have an 86 mustang 5.0 with the low oil indicator and I suspect I need a rear main seal etc as that was common on 5.0 Windsor Fords. I can top the engine off drive it a short time say a weekend and the low oil light comes on. I added stp recently and it has went alot further and the oil level hasnt dropped as fast. Im not sure what that stuff does bit i think it did something it is thicker than molasses though its like real heavy slow moving oil you pretty much have to turn it up in the oil fill and walk away for 15 minutes. My grandpa was a firm believer in STP and motor honey back in his day.
He use to flip me **** saying if your gaskets ain't leaking ya ain't making any power. lol He was an old GM mechanic in the 40's to mid 70's.
He had a fast 68 and 71 Malibu, grandma's was the 68.
