Ok...another whats it worth....a "340" this time.

You might be able to get an arm and hand under the carpet at the firewall. You might be able to feel at least some of the floor from there.

Undercoating might make it more difficult to discern rust from underneath, but if the floor pans have 30+ year old rust, the undercoating would likely have holes or cracks in it by now. You could try tapping on it with a hammer handle and listen for a drastic change in the sound.

Light rust might be impossible to discern without pulling back the carpet, though.

I guess I am most worried about holes or heavy rust, or sloppy repairs (which would be visible from underneath).

Here's a weird question for ya....

I am considering taking a set of car ramps with me so I can crawl around under the car....

Would you folks think that was over the top if someone showed up to see a car of yours?

Also, should there be a "seam" where the front quarter panel meets the back of the rocker under the door?

If this has been smoothed over with body work, major issue? That could be a place where it could crack under normal use right? Cant tell in the pictures....the last car I looked at had cracks there....

I started look at other folks pictures and it does seem like there is no seam...at least not in pics....

I think I am thinking too much....LOL

I would have a problem with someone putting my car up on their ramps in my driveway. Too many liability issues.

I wouldn't have a problem driving it up to a local garage and lifting it up on a lift as long as they paid the garage.

Well, I went and looked at the car today....had th cash in hand , a trailer reserved and a notary lined up. All I neded was the car .

...but it can never be that simple, can it?

It appears that the car was once hit (hard) on the right side.....From the outside it isnt too obvious at first.....but when you open the trunk you see daylight....the right trunk extention was apparantly crumpled up like tissue at one point and straightened back out.....resulting in numerous little tears and holes. It is seperated in aspot or two from the rest of the trunk floor....and the front right corner of the trunk pan is pushed up and there is a hole.....also a hole doen inside the fender on the right side.....looks like it was hit and the entire right rear side panel was replaced...the concerns I had about the right sidenear the door became clear then.....that angle is not a camera trick but an actual angle down to the rocker, where they mated the repair panel to the rest of the car. Some bondo.

The right door has been replaced (different color door jamb).

SOme minor rot around where the rear upper quarter mates with the trunk jamb....likely from where the repair was tied in.

The front fender looks like it may have been tweaked too, but not much bondo from what I can tell.

The left side lower rear quarter panels are full of bondo.....the front is bubbling pretty good and the rear is jut really wavey (as was pointed out in the graphics).

The roof paint has numerous fish-eyes and would need repainted. The rest of the car paint is thin kand glossy, but with many waves/bumps....like someone ALMOST sanded enough but not really.

Inside, the dash pad is pretty crackes and the rally dash has some small cracks in it....some sheet metal screws holding stuff in place....

i wont list all of the issues.....I suppose you have to expect some issues with a car that is selling for $5k...but I think this car is more like a $3k car, as has been suggested.

It IS a 340 car...washer on the k member, it has the clutch pedal still.......

The 318 in it is a later model (74ish he thinks) and seems to satrt ok and doesnt smoke.....idles ok....no exhaust past the headers.

Iam still considering this car, but would offer much less than $5k......I was told that someone else looked at it this past friday and someone else is supposed to see it tommorrow..he did tell me the price "very flexible, within reason".....kind of adual meaning phrase there I think.

On the way home I happened across a 66 Fury 3 that has was redone with a smallblock....original interior...was a AC, automatic car but now has a 4 speed and no air.....body is real nice...........asking $8000.....It basically made me realized how far off this red car was from what I am looking for....

So, thesearch goes on....LOL

I will psot pictures of the trunk damage and the fury if anyone is interested.

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for, but if I was in the market, I would look at this one just because of the color & new paint that seller states is "spectacular", no rust etc. Only drawback is ......I think seller is a flipper. JMO

Thanks.

Nice looking car, but its a /6 (no offense to /6 guys out there) and I am looking for an 8 car.....converting that car to a solid 8 will put me way over what I want to spend.

Plus its in CA.

I have decided to look within driving distnce (up to 4 hours) for now....making a cross country trip to examine a car is not possible for me right now, and after looking at all the cars I have already, I know I wont buy a car sight unseen even with pictures, since pictures seem to not always tell the whole truth, nor do sellers.

After sleeping on it, I have realized that this last car's owners KNEW it has been wrecked and could have mentioned that......but didnt. Lots of things they could have told me but didnt....so lucky for me it was only 4 hrs round trip and an hour invested looking at the car and $30 in gas.

I guess I am getting a little frustrated at this point.

But coming across that Fury on the drive back made me realize that my looking for a $5-8k car thats in nice shape isnt an impossible quest.......so the search continues. I may call on the Fury , but the wife doesnt like it...LOL...plus it IS a really BIIIIG car ...but she was pretty.

Seats look like they are from a 74-76 SE Special Edition or similar luxury interior, I'd be interested in the rear seat skins if you buy the car.
