I thought H code pertained to a factory 340ci car.
Yet there is a 69 dart in the 4 sale section listed as a H code yet is factory 383
There is a code further down the listing that tends to give credence to the 383 being H code too
It's a beautiful car too

Engine code H means different things based on the model year.
As an example, H code in 66 indicated hemi engine while H in 1967- 69 meant 383 4 bbl. For 1970-71, H meant 340/275 hp, but for 1972-73, H indicated 340 / 240 hp. You have to know the year to determine the engine code.

100% true and accurate!

Codes go by year and the letter represents the engine as far as h goes from 1970-1973 h is for 340 4 bbl
So it's like this b -198 /6 -c 225 /6
G-318
H - 340
70 only J- 340- 6 bbl
L 383 - 2 bbl
N - 383 magnum 4 bbl
U- 440 magnum
V- 70-71 (very rare 72 ) 440- 6bbl
R 70-71 Hemi
I can't remember 400 ?
But any way I'm sure you can see the logic in the coding .

Ok so I had to go look
71 up
K- 360 2 bbl
M- 400-2bbl
P- 400 - 4 bbl

69 - M stood 440 in a bodies
And 69 1/2 m code was 440/6bbl
At least from how I understand it that's the way the codes work on the 5th digit .
As stated 68-69 340 was different as were others and stated h meant Hemi in earlier vins .

My 68 Dart GTS is H code 383, as stated above, depends upon year.

So is the pic in your avatar your Dart ?
Did it come from the factory with the color combo ?
Is it f8 green with the red stripe ?
Regardless if it's original ?
I think your car is stunning !!!
If it's original it just adds more !!!

Yeah.. We have a guy on the Coffee thread that does renderings of your car on his computer. He is a real artist. In 68 the dark green is GG1. This car is numbers matching, with all documentation. It came with a white tail stripe, but I'm gonna put a red one on it , since I want to use red line tires, and the GTS emblems with the red background. Just want to be different. Car is NOT finished yet. And I have 2 other cars to restore. Long Road. You can check the build thread on it at the bottom, by my signature here.....

Cheers all

As i have a 70 Dart with numbered 340 and knew it to be a H code car, i was a little confused

Thanks again
