I google to find the driveshaft length for a 72 dart if I put a 904 with an 8 1/4.

This chart comes up repeatedly on a Google search on many mopar sites and the problem is that it lists the same application (highlighted) with the different measurements, so how accurate is all this.

Even still on any google search I still cant seem to find any dart body with an 8 1/4 and 904. :protest:

Here is some info:
This is a chart of common 1966 and later RWD Mopar slip yokedriveshafts. It is sorted by length to help with interchange.

Why not crawl under the car and measure it to get an exact length? I had a new one made with my old slip yoke and it was not that bad price wise.....besides, a new driveshaft is better than a worn original.

Did a Dodge Dart ever come from the factory with a 8 1/4 rear? I thought only the 8 3/4 and 7 1/4 were the options?

Yep, I agree with Keith. Crawl under and take a measurement. Myself, its just piece of mind knowing the measurement I took under the car is correct.

well there is no rear under the car yet so I am just getting ahead of myself but I figured it should be as easy as a chart like this but I am starting to think this chart is a bit off, so best if others know before they go cutting a driveshaft to find out its not even close.

Well that poses a problem of crawling under and taking a measurement.... Sorry but I dont know anyone that has a 8-1/4 under there car. Wish I could help further.. best of luck Rani!

well this also begs the question for those with duster/demon/dart sport cars. Which one on the chart is the correct one for these cars?

the two I highlighted in blue are the same application...two different numbers.

And this chart is all over the web .....even on FBBO.

Last thing you want to do is invest in a shaft and find the info used was wrong.

Rani, why not measure what you have and compare it to what the chart says.

52.70-51.89 = - 0.81"

Average = 52.295" (or a tad over 52 1/4")

You're only talking a little under 1" difference. With the length of engagement of the slip yoke in front, it may be close enough, or take the average of them. See if you have one in that range, then when you put it together see if it fits. If not, then make an "adjustment"...

I have one from a 74 dart with 904 and 8 1/4 and it's 45" c-c. Did you look at the driveshaft thread/sticky I set up?

My guess is that the difference is in the u-joints (Chrysler used two sizes and there did not seem to really be a pattern as to which you would find based on engine option). Get the car together and measure with the weight of the car on the axle.

X2 on u joint difference.
Also slip yoke length is different between 904 and 833/727

For a ballpark figure 904/8.25 111" WB 52.75" Always measure at ride after pinion angle is set.

I just measured mine 74 SE with a slant/904 and 8 1/4 rear and get 52 3/4 center of the u joints.
looks like this one is it.

Hmmm. My 1971 Dart has an 8 1/4 (318/904 car). I was lead to believe it was original. Guess I need to research that.

Rani, don't trust any driveshaft chart, anywhere! Even the factory parts books are incorrect!
I tried at one time to make a 100% accurate chart but was unable to get enough real world data. I am still working on it.

Please measure your driveshaft and list the measurement for those who need it?

As best I can tell, mine measures right at 52 3/4. This would be right in line with the 1973-1976 Duster Dart Sport with 904 and 8 1/4 from the above chart.
