I was working on my slant yesterday getting the oil filter and sending unit on when I noticed an opening behind my oil pump that goes into the block....I can put my finger in there.

I checked the part number M66C and it shows it to be correct. The gasket looks correct as well.

Is there an issue using this style of oil pump or am I ok?

Should I pack some foam or something in there to keep debris out if it is OK?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Normal, Chrysler made a change with the pump, and it has one less bolt too. Not sure when the date of the change was made.

Probably a blind cavity. They likely designed it to save weight, as way bicycle parts with holes in them.

Yes thanks for the input. I did more research and agree that it's fine. I stuffed the hole with some of that material you can put in gas tanks to keep the sloshing down and that should be good enough to keep debris out.

Moving on to the next dilemma.

OK I guess to stuff something in there. Not sure why since it doesn't (shouldn't) go thru to the crankcase.
