I'm going to be pulling and replacing my windshield in the spring. My Duster has the chrome trim around the windshield. A local body shop guy said I need to order a specific windshield mounting gasket rubber piece, as not all have the provisions to put the chrome strips back in.

And supposedly, the chrome needs to be installed along with the rubber gasket, not one then the other. I'm not sure.

I've looked on Year One and Classic Industries, and they have gaskets, but none specify about the windshield chrome trim or not.

Anyone know which is the correct rubber mounting gasket for my application?

The standard gasket is all that is required! The trim lays over it, and as long as none of the clips for the trim were removed you should have no issues!

I used a Local Mom and Pop Automotive Glass shop to re-install my front and rear Glass! Might be a better option for you, instead of the Body shop you talked with! JMO!

You might want to check out Steele Rubber’s gaskets, I bought all my gaskets from them for my resto payed a bit of a premium compared to others but found the match in materials and fit to be worth it.

The glass guy who came to pull the windshield mentioned Steele's for a replacement gasket, but my Classic Industries gasket was already delivered.

What would be the correct procedure for RTV or any sort of sealer applied to the metal frame before the windshield gasket is put in place? I think some RTV might be needed in the bottom corners, as the pieces of metal are a bit uneven and might leave a gap. The new rubber is flexible but maybe not flexible enough to seal.

And is it better to put the gasket on the frame, then put the windshield in, or put the gasket on the windshield, then put the whole thing in? The glass guy mentioned the gasket on the windshield first, I think gasket on the frame first makes more sense, but whatever, as long as it never leaks a drop ever again.

I got a pack of new chrome molding clips from Classic Industries as well, so they will all be replaced. Some of the originals were okay but most were not.
