Have any of you guys used a parts car for better parts on your no.1 car and then felt sorry for it or gotten attached and then fixed up the parts car or am i the only sympathetic sucker on here?

That's funny! I hava a Dart Swinger 318 parts car for my 72 Scamp that I just pirated the disk brakes from, and I plan on taking the driver's door and rear valence as well. The poor Dart actually runs and drives but has swiss cheese for a roof. I've been giving serious thought to at least trying to put it back together since other than the roof it's really solid. I don't have the funds right now to do it so it will probably stay in the "notional" world. Here's the "Part Dart":

I had a 67 Formula S I was using for parts that I felt pretty bad about. Then I went to remove a lower control arm and the torsion bar and cross member came out with it. But what really made me feel bad was when my father sent it to the junk yard with the 273 commando, 4 speed and 8-3/4 still in it.

unless theres no title,or just so rusty they cant be repaired.I have fixed some cars so rusty, you would not believe.Like the 68 r/t i fixed a couple years back for a fellow mopar guy,the roof, quarters, floor pans, front fenders, trunklid, etc were so rusty,he got the car for 650.00 from the original owner.I had to scavenge frame rails, quartepanels, etc from 4 door coronets, and modify them to fix this thing.most of the vehicles i have were considered somebodys parts car

Just reading this thread makes me want to start up my parts car again.
I have robbed a few pieces from it but have yet to disable it.
Only parts I can think of that I still need for the ragtop is a left door and some sheet metal patches.

About 8 yrs. ago I bought a `68 340-S Notchback to get a set of front fenders and wound up buying the six barrel set-up as a side deal from the same guy. After swapping the front fenders I flipped the car and as soon as I sold it I realized I should have kept it. It was a factory P-code 340 / 4 spd. with a 3.23 SG rear, dark blue with a black interior, and it was ROCK SOLID. In some ways it was better than my Fastback I restored. It was a COMPLETE RUNNING, DRIVING CAR! I bought it for $800 and sold it for $1,400.

Boy... I made out, huh? Today you couldn't touch a car in that condition for anything less than $6,000 :angry3:

Should we start up a support group? Just kidding. I hope I dont have to buy a parts car, because id feel the same way. I guess cars are a little like a horse.

I can totally relate to this thread. One minute I'm robbing parts from it......the next thing I know it's sand blasted and in sprayed in epoxy on the rotisserie:scratch:

Parts Car - "a car purchased with the intention of scavenging but deemed too worthy. After a lengthy dreaming bout will eventually be parked next to the rest, so parts acquisition for it can now begin"

Yes, there are some I wish I did not cut up. Like the rust-free 67 NB Barracuda that center punched a pole. Or the 70 340 Swinger auto. with rusty rear rails. Worst was pirating a EV2 72 Demon 340 - 4spd. I could have bought the car less drivetrain for $300, but instead paid $100 for two fenders and misc. trim.

The ultimate worst would be my first 68 Barracuda. After a not so amicable separation, my long-time gf wanted the car. I left it in the driveway after taking a sawzall to it and reducing it to a heap of scap. I kept the hood emblem for my keyring, and to this day it reminds me how much I loved that car... and hated that b%*&#h! LOL

I wish I had the funds to restore this car...It will have to live on in my 71 Dart!

My condolences on your Plum Crazy 340 Demon.... what a shame.

I got into A-bodies when I bought a 72 dodge demon to drive while I restored My roadrunner . On the drive home My plans changed . My cheap little beater ran so well you couldn't wipe the smile off My face. I still have the bill of sale
for $250. And I drove the hell out of it for two years without ever doing a thing to it untill I slipped the timing chain on the 318.I'll never find a deal like that again!Kids dad sold it to me to teach him a lesson the $250. was to pay for his tickets. Not the car or what He had invested in it.

I'm trying to get a 64 4 door dart for a very reasonable price. Be great parts for both of my others. I was third inline to respond to him, but the others have flaked. I'm crossing my fingers and toes. I felt real bad about chopping up my parts wagon that was in better shape than mine, but it was promised that the car would never see the road and I keep my word. Still hurt to do it.

i dont think i could ever get myself to get a car as a parts car to cut up and just trow the remains away. on the other hand i wont mind cuting a nice car up for a prostreetbuild

Happy Easter Day to me!! I'm supposed to go get that parts car on Easter Sunday. I wonder what kinda goodies it will have stashed in it. I know the freshly covered bench seat is going straight into my wagon. I hope I can sleep tonight the anticipation is killing me. I'm gonna have the kids help devour the car. I'll keep you posted on the goodies.

I picked up the parts car today. It looks like it was in the bumper car rink for a while. Along with the dents there is Salt air rot. But what can you expect from a car that spent it's life 20ft from the Pacific ocean. There's plenty of beach sand in the carpet, and Dead Head stickers etc.. I'll probably be giving away some of the larger panels and doors later, as you can only keep so many sets for a four door.

anybody else rescued the parts car? Im thinking of whacking a section out of a 4 door coronet to make a short wheelbase altered like the old chevy2s are done or like a dart altered

This Saturday I am picking up a 74 dart sport to rob the k member and disk breaks. on the plus side the gal I have lined up to buy it with the '71 /6 k member in it wants to restore it. I have parted out to many aspen / volares but the ones that got parted were all rust buckets and are not worth enough to store them until some fool comes along, so I feel better since the parts are going to good homes. My Challenger might have been a perts car but I don't think it was I think it was disassembled to be restored and then forgot about, until I got it.

I had a 72 Demon slant/6 3-on the tree. I loved that car. Then it got rerended, it was bad. So I parked it and started parting it out. I wanted to fix it so bad But it was just to far gone. It is gone now. I am going to miss that car a lot. Good bye old friend.
