Being blessed/cursed with a curious mind, I always wonder why, what if and how come.
Companies like Chrysler always seemed to swing between being flush with cash to then being borderline bankrupt. You'd think that they would have had better control of themselves and controlled costs better by finding ways to reduce costs.
Few people liked the 1972 and later side marker lenses but they used those for MANY years. Outer door handles were also used across many models. They used various bits of hardware for many years, the 318 and 360 were updated to the 5.2 and 5.9 to meet contemporary standards and did quite well.
What confused me was why automakers made post sedans and hardtops. Why two different designs? You then have to have different glass, door frames, weatherstrips, the post models sometimes had taller windshields meaning different A pillar covers inside, different wiper arms and other parts. Why? All these different parts cost money to make.
How about K members? Why use a different K member for slant six, regular V8 and then Hemi engines? They all had different motor mounts anyway, why have a different K member? That made no sense at all. GM didn't do this stuff. Late 60s B bodies could have come with four different axles....The 7 1/4", the 8 1/4", the 8 3/4" and the Dana 60.
Ford was stupid in many ways. 4 lug hubs for 6 cylinder, 5 lugs for V8s? That was dumb as ****. What did they really save by doing that?

Here is one. We have a 2023 Jeep Overland model. It is NOT a Hard Core offroad capable model like the Rubicon and Mojave versions. It is a street version with street tires and standard suspension. It is loaded with things like a navigation system and every other creature comfort you can think of EXCEPT for power seats. Give me a damn break. Is Jeep saying that since a person could possibly go offroad in a Gladiator Overland that the vehicle is not allowed to have power seats??? Hey, I have an idea. Let the customer decide what the hell they want! I can almost see not having power seats on the Rubicon and Mojave. You can buy Ram 4x4 trucks that are way more offroad capable than my Gladiator with power seats.

They didnt save anything by doing that stupid ****. I used to work for an engineer that was transplanted into a Vice President of Operations role. He couldn't find his *** with both hands and a mirror. Every production problem that arose he just threw more labor in to try and solve. He was the epitome of the definition of "the Peter Principle" and the irony of it his name was Peter. I once saw a new truck come into the GM dealership I worked at come in with Chevrolet badging on one side and GMC on the other...so if any die-hard fender tag guys think the car is actually going to match 100 percent of the time, "you've got another thing coming"

Why can't we buy much of anything that doesn't have 4 doors that's less than 20 years old
Why would they rather sell a truck with a 4 door cab and a uselessly short bed
Why do brand new parts right across the dealership parts counter have to say "made in China"? When the vehicle itself wasn't in the first place

The biggest mistake the automakers ever made IMO is not banding together and standing up to big government when they started telling them how to build cars. It was all downhill from there.

Why did USA automakers take the knee and concede to the Japanese in the 4-door, family car market? There is a solid market for these cars, Camry's and Accords are still great sellers. Corollas and Civics as well. USA automakers went trucks and crossovers. Yeah, I know Dodge hung in there with the Charger but....

Why did Nissan ditch the "Datsun" name when it had established a fairly large American fan base. That's when high level table talk is out of touch with the market and streets.

They conceded to the import automakers in every way possible, as far as I'm concerned. Chevy gave us Vega, Toyota gave us Celica. Dodge gave us Colt. Datsun gave us 510. The imports have had us beat for a good while. When I worked at the Toyotee I was always impressed at how they used forged internals almost across the board. Just way overkill for a little chitkicker.

I have an Accord V-tec, and my daughter drives a Charger 3.6 AWD. I think the Charger rides a little better, they are very close in MPG, and we both have had these for a few years. Both have been very good cars. BUT... without the AWD, the Chargers don't do well around here in the winter. That's huge!! The Accord is a trooper in the snow. Her Charger is fantastic with the AWD though.

I just ordered a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in October. I can ONLY get it in the WT series because I want a regular cab with an 8' bed. I really wanted an LT but the ONLY regular cab available is a WT. I was a LONG-TIME Ford truck guy until I bought my 2011 Chevrolet Silverado due to Ford no longer offering a plow package on an F-150. Although I wanted an F-150, the 1500 Silverado fit the bill.

I hope you skirted the fuel management system.

Once I take delivery......
Delayed build until March 9th. I expected it mid-December. I checked off almost evert box as I expect this to be my last truck. If I keep it as long as I had the 2011, I'll be 80 then. Hope to still be driving and plowing.

had to get one, and was given the ultimatum, just go out and get something. I got close to what I would have ordered. only addition was AWD which was not on the list.
Sun roof pissed me off. That drain plugged up on me and flooded the POS.

I absolutely detest sun roofs.

The only thing more lame and gay than one sun roof is TWO sunroof, my wife got just that in her new used Mazda cx-50. That little 2.5 skyactive engine needs a supercharger. Driving up 50 to Tahoe i had to get out and kick the *** of that rice eating hamster.

How about the cars themselves? Why did GM give up on Saturn? Why don't they make cars the are super fuel efficient? You guys remember the original Ford Taurus. It was super aerodynamic and pretty fuel efficient, but they ditched that for heavy and not fuel efficient? Why? The Feather Duster got 36 mpg with an iron block and head (4 speed.) So much technology today and still only 28 mpg

To me an A F M J body is as small of a vehicle they have been the smallest car they should have been allowed to build. I still love the 2 door B bodies, perfect size car.i had a 2011 Malibu cone in at work, I had to take the seat completely out of the car so I could get in and replace a stoplight switch on the brake pedal

They should not have been allowed to discontinue the inline 6, the 318, the 302, and I hate to say, yeah the 350 as well
They also should not have gotten away from the stick shift. And most of all they should not have been allowed to take away the serviceability.
Have to pay extra for "gateway" besides having to pay out the azz to constantly update a scanner to be able to figure out what's going on with a current car? WHY? I can't even read codes on a 2017+ Mopar let alone read parameters on what is going on with one.

I totally agree. There's nothin natural about a hole hacked in the roof of a perfectly good vehicle. I have a friend who is the President of our bank in town. He got a 2020 Ford F150 in that real purdy blue. Had a sunroof. He fully intended to never open it because he knows the trouble they can give. He loaned the truck to a friend. They opened the sunroof. He never could get it to stop leakin so he traded it. He has a newer GMC now. With no sunroof.

Ford drains them right into the rockers. The biggest **** show ever. I turn that rust job down.

Remember vacuum operated windshield wipers ???

You guys ever look at the steering linkage of a 1980 Corvette? What a dumb *** design that was. Same for an early Mustang.
What idiot thought a spring above the UPPER control arm made sense?
