I started tearing the Demon apart to store the parts for the future restore, The body is pretty bad form the windshield drains being plugged sitting in the woods for 35 + years. What I saw wast the water ran into the car over the lower windshield frame . Also the drip edge and cowl leaked water into the door edge rusting the bottom of the door hinge frame through. I scoped the door frame and the interior rust is rally bad so replacing the lower section would just be a bandaid. The car has to be spot weld drilled apart. Clogged holes with factory seam sealer and then I opened them

What I also noticed is the black out for the hood stripe was painted before the car was assembled

The column had a foam seal at one time no bearing.

The lower hinge frame was rusted through on the passenger side not the drivers side. But both hinge frames are so rusted inside they should be totally replaced

Hood is shot from rust but the scoop is fine.

Fenders and Passenger side door are savable and pretty nice considering the rust in the cowl, floors and windshield frame.

Once the water flows in a car through the windshield sitting for many years .The rust damage is unbelievable . Could it be patched up ? Of course and then sent down the road but not by us.

This body needs a total overhaul but my son wants to fix it. Every rusted panel will be removed and a doner car will be cut up and used to fix it. I'll probably watch over him from heaven. But he is committed to making a numbers matching fast class car out of it. Red white stripes /interior and top.

I grew up in PA. The 340 Demon orange/white top and interior is identical to one my friend had in 1973.
Get this, it was his "winter car". Bought new so he wouldn't drive his 66 Coronet Hemi car in the snow.
My how times have changed.

My old boss had a 71 Demon 2900 mile survivor. Guy ordered a Hemi car and it didn't come in on time so he bought a car to drive while the Hemi car was being built. Afterwards it just sat in his garage until found then eventually was bought. Car currently is in a collection in Franklin, TN.

That will be a cool project. Tell Steve Jr I like his style. Let's hope you'll be around for a while longer at least.

I have a car for all the parts needed, another 72 Demon with some rust issues. But I have a 4 door valiant for the complete chassis , floor with the rails bumper to bumper. No holes rust free. under the car no even pin holes

Windshield drains?? I'm wondering where they normally drain to, and if it might be better to have them clogged so water isn't running through the frame somewhere. And why would they be clogged with factory seam sealer. Maybe the factory application guys didn't deem it of utmost importance to keep them clear.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out why my complete floor and front frame rails were toasted; maybe the windshield drains were a contributor.

They drain into the cowl, and out the sides by the hood hinges. If they don't work, the water in the channels overflow and end up dripping down the inside of the firewall or from under the dash. Eventually into the carpet.....Which stays damp, and rots the floor.

They have to be clean.....
