I have a 64 valiant two door sedan. i'm restoring it and want to make a cruiser/mild stree car. It will have a 400hp 360 with a cast iron case OD 833. i also have a 8 & 3/4 rear for it. what would be good gear set to run? thanks for any input

Since its a O/D unit, you can afford to go to a higher gear ratio for take off and use a tall tire,28 inch to get back some of the top end.A 3.55-3.73 gear would be niece as it would drop down to a ratio of about 3.08 when you went into O/D,mrmopartech

3.91's or 3.73 if you got the coin. I had a A-833 OD in my cuda with a 2.76 rear.....that was hilarious! 4th was just "optional" and I had to downshift at any slight grade. It was pretty cool though. Where I live, everyone drives 80~85+ on the fwy.

You musta failed math. With the OD and a 3.55 his final drive ratio will be 2.59. with the 3.73 it will be 2.72. The OD ratio is .73.

All kidding aside, you will be most comfortable, IMO with a 3.91-4.30. I am going to run a 4.30 in my 63 Dart. I am building a hot naturally aspirated slant 6 for mine. Since yours will have a pretty hot 360, you can pull a higher gear. But, keep in mind that even if you choose the same 4.30 that I am going to run, your final drive ratio will stil be only 3.139:1. What will be fun is the overdrive's first gear ratio which is 3.09:1. That would make your first gear final drive ratio 13.287:1. That would be pretty fun on the street. LOL
