I know it wasn't/isn't a high dollar bike but it's what I had as a kid. Got one just like it for Christmas back in the day. Put all kinds of good parts on it. Spider sprocket, freewheel, hutch bars, tough neck, cw seat post, mx1000 brakes, snake belly tires....etc. anyway when I moved into my first house it got stolen. Kinda sucked having it so long and it getting stolen.

Anyway I found this unmolested 81 I think it is black/gold pro thunder on craigslist in ct. Have seen a bunch of other colored ones for sale but not a black/gold one. I had to have it. So I took a should have been 3 1/2 hour ride that turned into a 4 1/2 hour ride to get it the Friday before Memorial Day. Paint and decals are far from perfect but other then the one pad everything on this thing is original down to the tires. Freaking thing rides nice and smooth, couldn't believe it. Can't wait to get it out for a nice ride.

I'm kinda torn though. It's so original but at the same time I'd like it do some of the things my original one had done to it. It's all bolt on stuff so I guess it wouldn't be a big deal to modify it and have the original stuff stored for it.

That's pretty cool. But since it ain't a Mopar, get ready for some grief.

Nice! I love it! I my first BMX bike (as opposed to a Sting Ray style bike that I jumped off ramps anyway) was a Pro Thunder (different year with different gusset) that was red/white/blue, but I painted it black and bought all gold parts at Farm and Fleet to make it look just like yours.

I've built copies of all my old BMX bikes (and then some) that I had as a kid... the Redlines, GTs, and Schwinns, but haven't ever found a Pro Thunder like mine. Yours is a nice survivor. It wouldn't hurt it to do the bolt-ons to make it like yours was... I hope you've done research to see how much some of those parts will cost! That's the main reason I got out of OS BMX... prices just got too crazy, so I sold a lot of stuff I'd collected and put it into cars instead!

Anyway, nice score, and have fun reliving those memories!

tell me about it.. the bmx hobby has gone the way of the car hobby. NOS part prices went through the roof and no one wants to ride them anymore. they just want to take them to a show and sit around.. screw that i say... i'm into riding my stuff so i'll go cheap and buy the repopped stuff mostly from prokchops.. they have all kinds of stuff reproduced..

Yep, I'm the same way. I sold off all of my NOS stuff (except for the stuff I had already bolted on to my tribute rides... horrors!!!) when I realized how much people would suddenly pay for them. Crazy. I have a few Chops and newer parts on some of my rides, and until recently, actually rode them. When my son's old enough for a 20", he's getting them all. They were meant to be ridden and had fun with, not stared at!

I got a Haro Edge for Christmas in '91 ... still got the bike, still has the original Haro grips !

Still got my Schwinn Scrambler. I think its an 80 or 81 model. I soaked it with WD 40 and stuck it in my folks attic for years. Its been up there since 1987. Finally brought it home and cleaned it up. Tires have a little dryrot but are original. I had to put new pedals on it, new tire tubes, clean and repack all the bearings, and put new brake pads on it. Paint is nice with very few scratches. Even still has the sticker where i bought it from. Clifton speed center, main ave Clifton N.J. I dissassembled it, and shipped it to Abilene where i live now. I did test ride it, U'm too big for it now, gonna get a fat tire bike, prob gonna hang it on the wall of my garage as wall art LOL.

You could always clothespin some playing cards to the rear frame rail into the spokes to get that muscle car sound, lol. :D
