So I recently bought a basket case 1973 duster with a 225 and a 904 with a very clean body that came from California. The prior owner did his best to get it running with little information on early mopar and installed a super six intake manifold thinking it was the hyper pack. The throttle cable installation was pretty hacked. During my first start it got stuck wide open throttle, well you can guess what happened. But it did come alive :). He may have modified a Edelbrock setup.

I am in desperate need of pictures of the throttle linkage around the carb, and the kick down rod. In my recent research, there seems to be shorter cables which work. And there seems to be some options around the kick down rod.

You will need to start a separate Parts wanted ad once you figure out what you need.
 
Of course I am finding a lot of v8 kick down brackets, would any of those work on a super six application?
 
FYI, I tried a Holley 500cfm carb on a Doug Dutra built and warmed over /6. It was a dog below 3500 rpm. I swapped it to a 350 Holley, and it ran great. Sorry, I didn't save any pictures.

Agreed. This one is a 350, as I didnt even know this carb existed, I referenced the 500 as I believed it to be a more popular and recognizable carb. I had the choke-less 500 on a built 225 in a 1974 plymouth duster. My wife has the choke equipped 500 on her Datsun 510 shown in earlier post.
 
Sitting at my computer eating lunch and looking at options. I stumbled on the Lokar company, who seems to make some workable options for me.

Has anyone had any experience with Lokar products?
 
John, IMO, it's gonna be easier and cheaper using aftermarket parts. Look at Bouchillon Performance, for example. They have cable kits that will make it happen. Too many people out there now trying to get rich off Super Six stuff. It's just not worth it.

Thanks for the info. As indicated in this thread, I was willing to use original parts, but I am totally ok with aftermarket. Running and usable is better than original any day in my book.

I've used several Lokar transmission dip sticks on my cars, and they have all been top shelf.
 
Well, called Lokar. They dont have a complete solution for me to buy. What I may do is build a carb plate with a place for throttle and kickdown cables, then just buy a universal throttle cable and the 904 kickdown cable. I am still looking for a factory super six bracket to see if that will work. I dont even recall what they look like.

Seems to be the case with slant six upgrades... :)
 
I wasn't aware that a 904 was a TorqueFlite transmission. Second, many thanks. Unfortunately, They have nothing to offer since I don't have the original mounting bracket. And like most things, they dont offer a solution for Slant Six (or super six) throttle linkage. More so, I would not deal with that company due to the rude treatment on the phone. I will build my own bracket and pay the money for Lokar. Justification to spend $5k and buy a Grizzly Mill. May just have to wait till I get a job before going any further.

In contrast, I was afraid I ruined my Pertronix HEI module when soldering on a pin. Called them up this morning, told them what I did. Explained how I am using it, which I understand was NOT as designed. He was great, listened to what I had. He informed me that he doesnt believe I caused damage to anything other than the casing. Glad to hear that the product helped my situation. And documented where I got the info as a possible recommendation to the company.

I will spend more for good customer service over BS any day.
 
I recently swapped my 1973 Dusters' 225 from the 1920 Holley 1 bbl to a Super Six with adapter plate and 350 Holley. I had gotten part of the kickdown linkage setup from a junkyard on car-part.com , which included the plate that bolts on the bottom side of the exhaust manifold and holds the swingarm for the 2 part kickdown linkage. I re-bent my original lower rod a bit to better clear the shifter linkage, and took a piece of inch wide aluminum bar stock about 6-1/2 inches long and drilled a few holes to connect the lower rod to the Holleys' throttle lever. It worked well and I was able to tune the 904 kickdown just how I wanted it, with just a little more kickdown than stock.
 
Im in the middle of my install and it’s not the right carb, but this is my solution for lokar throttle/kickdown on my super six 62 Lancer. I’m using a stock throttle bracket with an angled metal bracket to hold the lokar bracket like the 4bbl uses.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, there is no space under the hood on a 62. I hope this helps you get some ideas though.

This is one of the best pictures I've found of the Super Six linkage and brackets at the carburetor. All of that should be fairly easy to fabricate.

Here is what I did with my linkage when I put a 350 Holley on a Super Six iron intake with an adapter plate. I got the Super Six parts on car-part from a junkyard in Kansas, but they didn't send the upper curved slotted metal bar, so I made one out of a piece of aluminum strip.

I'm using the lower kickdown rod from the original Holley 1920 assembly, the Super Six lower bracket and pivot arm, and a shorter 15 inch throttle cable. My longer 1 bbl cable worked but it had to make a couple big curves to fit. I re-bent the throttle cable mounting bracket a bit to get it how I wanted it.

With this aluminum bar in the linkage, I was able to tune the kickdown how I wanted it. I can shift the 904 with the gas pedal a little better now, as the kickdown lever is pushed a bit further back, and it'll hold 2nd gear a little higher and will kick down more easily than the stock settings allowed.

I also modified the big 45 or so degree bend in the lower kickdown rod so it wouldn't hit the shifter linkage. I moved the bend further forward.

I've installed several of their products when helping a friend that owns a restoration shop. I'll never use anything Lokar makes. Their kits are made of chinsey, delicate parts and poor quality at best. The Chevy guys love it, though. A shifter rod that's 1/8" in diameter? Gimmie a break. And that's no exaggeration.
