Pirate shipping is this legit or a scam

-
I use it when I need to ship a box and have been very pleased with it. Best tip I can give you about Pirate Ship, is that going forward I will pick the UPS quote over USPS.....even if it's a few bucks more. I shipped my nephew in Seattle a motorcycle helmet thru Pirate Ship and chose USPS simply because it was cheaper (that's rare) and it took 12 days to get there from NC. No fault of Pirate Ship at all. USPS rode the helmet all over the country instead of shipping it the quickest route. UPS would have delivered it in 3 days.

I just bought a 69 Swinger 4 Speed Trans from a member last week.
135 Lbs. from Sacramento to Houston on Pirate Ship / UPS for only $145
Shipped on Monday, and shows scheduled delivery is Thursday.
We'll see if it makes it on time, if so, 4 days from California to Texas is excellent in my opinion, and the rate is too.

I just had UPS ship some parts to me from N.Carolina, to Detroit......via Boise Id. **** happens.

Is this for just the USA or can it be used to ship from the USA to Canada? Is it available for use in Canada? Thanks. Kim
Kim, I went on Pirate Ship and looked at FAQ's......and it didn't give a clear answer about from USA to Canada. It did say that currently, it can't be used to ship from Canada to USA. They did say that Canada is at the tip top of their list to provide their services to.

I have used Pirate ship to send parts up into Canada, and to a few of the European countries.
No problems at all.
It just has you do the customs information when your doing the shipping label.
Easy, peasy.

Is there much of a price difference when shipping up to Canada?

Another benefit of using PirateShip is that because you pre-pay and print your label at home, that means no standing in line at the UPS store. I just tell them I'm dropping off and they scan it and give me a receipt. Really helpful around the holidays.

Yup, it's legit

My guess is the pirate takes a risk by bidding on how much they ship, and get a discount accordingly

They then let you, the user, use their "corporate account" to get the discount

So the drop off is a UPS store?

That must go over like a ton of bricks.

Good info. Thanks!
I don't understand what you mean by a "ton of bricks"?
If you don't have a UPS Store in your neighborhood, or your city, you can easily drop it off at a UPS terminal.
And you don't hafta always use UPS when using Pirate Ship.
You also can get a quote thru them using the USPS, if you want to, and then bring the package to the post office.

This was an expression used frequently in my youth. Born n raised in WI.

It means that it would not go over that great. Maybe I’m thinking about it wrong but i would think that UPS store would want you to utilize their service when walking through their doors, but i don’t ship a lot.

I'm well know at my local UPS Store as i use them quite frequently.
Just have to walk in, put the package down on the counter, then they scan it into the system, your all done, turn around, walk out the door.

UPS is trying to discourage customers from visiting their hubs, to the point they don't list the hub addresses on the internet any longer.

While you can still drop off and ship at the hubs they instead want you to use UPS Stores for shipping/ drop off, or print your own labels at home and drop them off at

UPS Access Point locations. Which in my opinion are far better. UPS is only open Monday - Friday with split hours at my local hub and finally closed at 7pm.

My local grocery store I shop at is open 7-days a week and I can drop off any time they are open. Much more convenient and the store makes .50 cent per package they take in

and have more individuals through the door that make store purchases. Win Win for the stores that are Access Points.

Quick Pirate Ship story:

Sent a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads to Jacksonville, Fl last Fall and bought the UPS labels from Pirate Ship.

I have a UPS and a FedEx commercial account that I used until Pirate Ship came along.

Insuring each box for $1600, below are the rates.

FedEx was $108 for each box using my account

UPS was $100 each box using my account.

Pirate Ship was $47 each box printing the UPS labels at home.

I've probably bought and sent 50-55 package labels via Pirate Ship at this point and I love how easy it is the use their software.

Pirate Ship is absolutely a great way to ship items.
