bought a 70 340 STD block, took to to the machine shop ,after cleaning , and before honing ,he found its really ,065 over does any one have any pistons like that ? thanks

What was his measurement?
.
Make sure he knows that a 340 is 4.040 bore stock and a 360 is 4.0.

It is not recommended to bore out a 340 block more than .030 as they are thin wall blocks. you could have it sonic tested to see how thin the walls are. It would be a waist if you took it out more and a wall split when it was running!

You can bore a 340 0.060 over. It just need sonic checked before hand to see if it can take it. My 72' block is 0.060 over. Beyond 0.060 is a custom piston or sleeve it back to 4.04.

I would like hear what Ed Hamburger has to say about this!

Does it matter what head hamburger says he didn't invent the 340 if you go back and you check. the 340 was made from 68 to 73 that was prior to the "thin wall castings". The 340 was build from the old thick wall poly 318s.

You can bore some 340s .100 over, I don't give a **** what anybody says. You just need to sonic test to be sure.

Back to the op's problem, you really don't have one. Like I said in the PM, just get a good quality forged .060" over piston and it'll run fine. Since forged pistons need a little more clearance because of their increased expansion rate, you'll be good. Just get a .065 over ring set and file to fit.

ed hamburger has forgotten more about 340’s than you will ever know.

Call him and ask him...LOL
He has had nothing to do with Mopar in 35 years.....

I remember his for 340 only catalogs and then later on it was for 340 and 360s only and then he quit.
Somewhere in my vast collection of books I believe I still have his catalogs from back in the 70s we did buy a couple of things from him.

I'll trade you a good standard bore 360 block for your overboard 340 block.
