I recently came into possession of a mystery cam. The box is for a MP 528 solid stick but handwriting on the box top says "Comp 557 Hemi". I took out a new 'known' B/RB 528 solid and positioned the pins in the faces of both cams at 12 o'clock. This cam is very definitely not a B/RB cam as the valve lobes were very different. Reading the face of the cam, it looks like 'CRH 285' although the '8' could also be a '9' but if this is a 285 dur/.557 lift on the intake, it is likely the Comp 24-308-4 (Grind: CRH-285S-8). Would one of you learned folks versed in Comp Cams identification please confirm or reject my theory? I have not measured the lift but will do it just to add to the findings. As always, thank you for any assistance. The cam will need to get touched up if I'm thinking of using it but it would be a good start.

426 Hemi has four of the valve lobes in a different
position than a B/RB.

As I seem to recall, center four cylinders have intake and exhaust valve
lobe in a switched order.

Definitely = Not interchangable.

A picture of the entire cam would help.

I was reminded the intake/exhaust lifter lobe events for one bank of the Hemi is EIEIEIEI where the same bank for a B/RB looks like EIIEEIIE. When I layed the B/RB cam next to this one, the lobes were clearly different from each other in the places where the two intake/exhaust chains did not correspond. More simply:

Hemi = E I E I E I E I
B/RB = E I I E E I I E or the four cylinders (two per side) as GTXJohn rightly recalled.

It’s a comp CRH 285s108, part number 24-308-4.

“CRH” is a hemi cam.
