My Demon pop out quarter windows don't stay open when driving. I can't see any adjustment on the latch.

Any tricks or ideas to fix this?

My latches will fold beyond full open and start to close backwards...if that makes sense...like over extending a knee.
They are 73 up windows though so the latch is a bit different.

Yes, I see the difference in the latches. Also, 73+ are plastic & mine are pot metal or something. Thanks Jim

That's NOT what I wanted to hear. How dumb is that to have windows made to open, but don't stay that way? Ugh!!

Time to engineer a fix to keep them open :)

They were not engineered to stay open. They were engineered for kids to pop open and spit their chewing gum out into the street; there were not yet seat-belt laws up here in 71, IIRC. Anyways kids were crawling all around in cars, and chewing gum was BIG in those years, lol.
'Course chewing gum was not the only thing being tossed, lol.

I find this engineered purpose for the pop out windows a bit hard to swallow....just like gum....haha :poke: :D

Phillips head screw holds spring tension clip in place. Puts friction on the pivot point which should keep the windows from flopping in the breeze...until 45 years of wear and tear...stuff just doesnt last anymore...:D

Remove screw and clip, gently reshape clip to put more pressure on the pivot, reinstall.

The one's on the 73+ cars stay open just fine. I think you need to swap the whole window as a unit though, I don't believe you can just switch the latches. Plus you have to notch the earlier metal sail panels to clear the 73+ mechanisms.

There was someone on here that adapted a set of mid-90's Dodge caravan electric actuators to make the pop out windows work under power, there was a few year run of those vans that had powered pop out windows.

Correct on swap as complete unit. Latch and glass mounting points are different so no swapping the latch or glass alone.
The 73 up latches can "over extend" and begin to fold closed backwards just a bit which locks them in position. The wind can not close them.
I notched the 70-72 metal panels to accept the 73 up windows.
Very simple to do and looks good. Nibble away at it though, dont just cut out a chunk!

I posted this the other day, it shows the cut out necessary on the 70-72 sail panels to fit the 73+ pop out windows. I'm doing mine as part of cloning my '74 Duster over to look like a '71 Demon, but obviously the same thing would apply to adding a later set of pop outs to an earlier car. The original panel is on the left, the modified panel is on the right. I removed part of the reinforcing corner piece and then trimmed the edge back a little to clear.

If you make them too tight then you can't run over and slap them from the outside easy when it stats to rain LOL!

Mine close the second I start rolling in the Demon above 10mph. I thought it was a safety thing. When I was a kid in the 70's, I had to sit in the rear with no AC in my parents 340 Demon.
As my Dad ripped thru the gears they would always close and we were hot. No seat belts, just 2 x 55 mph for cooling.

Yeah, not a safety thing, just not a great design. The redesigned 73+ latches don’t fold in at speed.
