porting 452 heads

-
Shouldn't this well known shop be able to tell you? Are they giving you a flow figure and you want to compare it?

Or,

How would you quantify, "How much porting can be done to a 452 head"?

A bunch, a little, 4 lbs removed, X amount of flow, good to .500" lift, are we comparing it to another type of head?

Aren't there some people making 600+hp out of 440s with ported 452/906 heads?

To the OE poster;

A bowl porting along with new and better valves, valve seat work, AKA, A bracket valve job is all you'll need. The porting of the bowl takes the heads performance e to .500 lift or so. Further enhancements can be found by the pro's how know the head. The been there and done that crew, whom you should check with.

Little is found outside of this area since valve lift is low and most of the flow enhancements come from the bowl area.

Hey Tex;

Yes, you can make that kind of power with a seriously well ported head. Though the rest of the build would scare the faint of heart away. High comp. ratio and big cam.etc…
You know, the kind of stuff that people say is not streetable.

AH HA, now we are getting some where.

Typically you would expect to see these flows from ported 452 heads.

.100"................67/na
.200"..............137/na
.300"..............199/na
.400"..............239/na
.500"..............256/na
.600"..............262/na
.700"..............265/na

Here are the average flows from the last set of ported 452 heads.

.100"................90/63
.200"..............166/124
.300"..............218/178
.400"..............255/216
.500"..............278/241
.600"..............288/256
.700"..............294/263

Quite right, our 451 stroker with 452 heads and 9.5:1 compression made 621 horsepower and was very streetable. The same 451 with 9.7:1, a bigger cam, 906 heads, made 694 horsepower, but would have been a handfull on the street.

So how much u think it would cost to do a valve job planning on keeping the 509car cam in it for awhile
I am hoping to get it to run 7.2o or faster compression is.10 5 1

I dunno how much your guy charges but a competition 3 angle vj in my neck of the woods runs about $320...of course that includes disassembly, clean, machining, checking/reshim springs as needed, reassemble, pressure check, and new freeze plugs...
