My power steering pump is leaking so bad it is driving me crazy! Does anyone have the specs for the pumps? Amount and pressure? I'm planning on upgrading it anyway to save some weight anyway... I just need to find one with the right specs.

Thanks!

Benjamin

Real easy fix....
They only came with 2 kinds of pumps..Saginaw or Federal.

Easy to find or go to NAPA and order a rebuilt one for about $80.

Saginaw or Federal

Thanks but which is which? And I really didn't want to put a stock one back on anyway... I was thinking of getting a lighter one... racing style or something... I'm not sure right now.

How about the ratio? I've heard conflicting reports.. But I thought it was in the range of 15.7-1... Anyone?

A pump will not change your steering ratio. That is set by your steering box.

Unless you are minimizing weight across the entire car….. (fiberglass panels, gutted interior and so on) any weight savings from an aftermarket pump will be insignificant at best.

Depending on where it`s leaking you can probably fix it at home for very little. I`ve seen kits for those pumps for less than 10 dollars.

Yep... I know that.. I just seem to have forgotten to actually TYPE the part about the box. I guess thinking it isn't good enough:angry7: haha!
So does anyone know the ration for the power steering BOX?

And that is a good point.. I was still wondering... Just because I like knowing I COULD do something even if I don't actually do it..

I don't know exactly.. I haven't had a chance to look.

The Saginaw 0.94 pump is the one do get.

The federal ones suck. And if you are into handling the federal one cannot keep up with fast steering inputs.

The "racing" ones look smaller/light because they don't have the reservoir on them. When you pull the can/reservoir off the 0.94 it looks smaller like the "racing" ones. Now if you get the aluminum racing ones, then I can see a significant weight reduction.

The ratio of a power steering box is 15.7 to 1. About the exact same as the fast ratio manual steering box.

I guess now that I think about it you're right.. I know, not a big shock there.. Thanks for letting me look at it in a different way!

And I have the federal anyway.. That might be part of the problem, Because when I go through fast switchbacks it goes out.

Thanks everyone!
