Powerglide planetary gear set

You would gain only if you have traction issues you can’t correct or you have so much torque the suspension can’t deal with it.

Reducing SLR is a way to help a car that has a short (relatively) and high (relatively) instant center.

Like a ladder bar or traction bars.
no issues with traction. i did have a suspension mishap but i did add supports to the ladder bar brackets. anti roll bar and wheelie bars will be installed on my car before next season.

Speaking of SLR what are your recommendation's? I have a 727 with a 2.45 first gear and a 904 with a 2.74 first gear and will be around 650-700 hp with a 28-inch-tall tire and have no idea what way to go. Both trans are all Cope internals.
I would say that is all going to depend on your rear gear ratio, your rear suspension, converter stall, etc etc.

My car is only in the mid 500 h.p. range I have ran a 904 for over 40 years with the current trans being in the car for 8 years ( I have a really good trans builder ) and I have a complete ready to go spare if needed. I have a friend that recently switched from a 727 to a glide behind his BB Dart he lost approx. a tenth and a half in E.T. which seems to be the norm from what I have seen , higher h.p. cars might not lose as much. I have friends trying to talk me into the switch to a glide, not happening just to much of an expense and I really like my 904s ! As far as Les and his glide I agree have it taken apart and gone thru so you know what you have and you will have a fresh ready to go trans if needed.

I have a TF904 built by Keith Long at 727 specialist it's all rollerized and billet drums and shafts, with a 2.10 billet straight cut first gear. My car is two tenths quicker with this trans than a 727 or a PG. On a good track it's as consistent as any car in the country. On a marginal track not so much. I recently changed the valve body and it now will leave on the brake in second gear. I'm sure that this will slow down the car probably 3 or 4 tenths. We really don't race on marginal tracks very often. But I love this trans and Keith Long has been very good to me.

VERY late to the party, but 71demon540 covered it. It would depend on your rear gear ratio, and your rpm band. If you don't have some excessive rear gear, and if you think it will hook on the tires and rear suspension you've got, the 904 WILL be faster. 3.91s? 904. 4.88s? 727.
